Sam's Cable Car Lounge — Restaurant in San Francisco

I've been compelled to write a review before because the service was so exceptional. In this case, it is quite the opposite.

When we arrived we were greeted by an older gentleman and shown to our seats. A waitress came over to take our orders. First of all, the drinks are overpriced but it's right on the middle of the tourist trap so you know... The problem is they add an 18% gratuity to the bill. The service was standard, not exceptional and 15% would have been coming their way anyway. Our bill came to $47.16 with the 18% tip, tax and SF charge included. At the bottom it says (and i'm paraphrasing here) "tip has been included, you may refuse tip if unsatisfied". We didn't refuse at all, we paid $47. Which means we paid the bill plus 17 point something % tip (.16 cent less tip than they suggested). Fair enough right? Well when the waitress collected the bill, she counted it on her way to the next table, she stops, turns around and tells us we didn't pay enough, we owe her " one dollar" more. My girlfriend replies "Well the tip was included in that bill and is 18% so that should be enough". The waitress said nothing, gives us both a look as if to suggest we have disgusted her. She goes over to another waitress standing at the door and points and gestures towards us and tells her how we didn't give her the extra .16 cent. We then just left out of pure anger and annoyance. We probably should have said something to management or the waitress in question but felt it wasn't worth it, this is how they like to do business clearly. Avoid this place. They don't deserve the 18% tip they will add on to your bill and they will treat you like garbage if you pay anything less (remember we paid 17.8%!!!). Terrible experience, they attempted to publicly...

A group of 10 of us stopped in after attending the Dodger vs. A's game on Saturday, about 10 pm. The place was empty, we thought they were closing! There were 3 bartenders doing nothing as we say at the bar for a drink. 2 bartenders were attempting to provide service for us, but the 3rd decided to let us know how much he doesn't like the Dodgers or Dodger fans. He wouldn't just let us enjoy our drink, he had to keep coming back taking smack. We tried to ignore him, agree with him, whatever would make him just go away, but he kept coming back to get a reaction from us. We just wanted to enjoy a drink and wind the evening down, but he wasn't getting it. The other 2 bartenders couldn't do much to make him go away either. The place really missed an opportunity some we left there and stopped at 3 other bars along the wak back...

I went to this place on Sep 10 with couple friends visiting from China. We were having good time there, which was why I gave additional tips after I was charged 22% on my bill. The subtotal was $87.03 (including 22% tips they charged). Then I tip $12.97 additionally to make it a total $100.00 bill. However, it showed that my bill was $100.03 totally when I checked my banking account couple days later.

I don't care about giving 3 cents more since I already tip them extra, but I just guess they were not supposed to do so. I don't care about how much I spend there at least we had a good time there, but what they did on the bill just made...
