Me and my bestie showed up at Sewa's door 20 minutes to closing on a rainy Monday evening after a long flight desperate for a tasty meal somewhere on Clement, they were open and so we decided to take a chance. I asked if they could accommodate take out so close to closing and they accepted!! Me and my buddy got orders of veg chow mein, apricot veg curry, chili naan, and brown rice and everything was available.
Everything inside was bright and classy and very clean and I was sad we didn't have time to eat in! The server was dressed super sharp and I thought that was ultra neat. The whole scene was super inviting and definitely a nice place for a date night or small intimate group gathering. In fact I was enjoying listening to the conversations in the restaurant while we waited for our food. (They have a few seats right at the entrance for people waiting on takeout orders).
I also can't overstate how gracious we were treated (as was a regular dropping in for take out). As we waited the server gave us some hot cups of chai and warned us about the caffeine content and I could not have been more thankful on a cold night for a warm caffinated drink! We had another 3 hours to drive to get home after this meal! There was also a regular hanging outside in the rain and cold and the server went outside and met him and invited him in. It was really sweet of him and really impressed me. When we got our food the server also asked if we needed plates or anything else to go with our meal since he knew we'd be eating in our car, again, so sweet and gracious!! We didn't but we appreciated being asked.
Finally, the food! It was all top quality and tasted fresh and well prepared and was so hot we had to sit and wait for it to cool down a bit!!
The chili naan was beautifully spicy, crispy, chewy, and just delicious (and not thick and doughy like some places serve it). It was extremely hot and we were burning our fingers trying to munch it the second we got to the car. It had not sat at all and was not soggy or cold or rubbery from being wrapped up while everything was being prepared! I really appreciated that. Definitely some of the best naan I have ever had. Highly recommended.
The veg chow mein was perfect! We ordered it hot and it delivered on the spiciness and had our eyes and noses running instantly, which I always appreciate! I loved that it tasted just like the chow mein I got in Sikkim, West Bengal, and Himichal Pradesh and made me want to go back to India so baaaad! The noodles seemed really fresh and we're nice and springy and the veggies were all tender crisp and flavorful. Delicious!
The apricot veg curry was divine. Silky smooth, rich, with balanced spices and we ordered it hot and it delivered on the spiciness. It had a good mix of veggies (and plentiful!) in it and they were well cooked and not too hard or mushy. I can see why people rave about the salmon version of this dish. It is well earned and thankfully the vegetarian version is also delicious!
The brown rice was well cooked and again not too mushy and we got a plentiful amount for the price. So we were happy with it.
Sewa is well worth the visit! I definitely plan to come back, earlier, and eat in and try their momos and thukpa especially!! I'm so glad we made a spontaneous stop on Clement and found these guys. Their kind treatment is very memorable and I wish them many years of success ahead!!

Read moreThis is our new favorite Nepalese places and one of the top restraunts we have had in San franssico.
The most recent time we visited we decided to try the vegi chili momos, garlic naan and apricot vegi curry, and mixed vegie curry. The momos and garlic Naan in particular were the best momos and Naan we have had which says a lot since we go to Indian all the time.
The momos had a phenomenal texture and taste. The outside was a little crisp and chewy with a great bite to them. The sunset itself looked spicy was a perfect level and balanced out with a semi sweetness that balanced it out well. The vegetables both in the filling and on the dumplings were well cooked and worked well with the sauce.
The Naan had bith a phenomenal texture and taste. The garlic and butter were just right and it had a great chewy and fluffy consistency.
The apricot curry was also incredible. The sweaters of the apricots paired really well with the slight spice and spices in the space. I usually get malai kofta but this might be my new go to.
The vegetable curry was the last one we got and was a great savory choice especially when paired with the Naan.
They even gave us some complimentary dessert and starter. The starter was a papadum with three varried sauces. There was a fresh mint dip, sweet mango, and spicy sauce. All three added a nice and unique taste and seemed fresh.
The service was incredible as well. From the getgo he walked us through the menu with great recommendations and answered all the questions we had. He was quick with water and always took care of everyone. He also remembered us and we had a great conversation. It sounded like he hit it off with a handful of other customers as well.
The music was a great touch as well. It seemed like a fair bit of tropical house which I liked a lot and don't see many places doing. Another small note is that it was nice that they had cardboard straws that held up well.
Overall an incredible place that is definitly worth...
Read moreThe restaurant is in the Richmond Area of SF - between 9th and 10th Avenues. You can easily walk/pass the restaurant - there's no frontal or sidewalk signage. Once inside the restaurant it's quiet. The waiter supplied superb service - wanting to please, ensuring your meal is perfect, proud of its dishes, friendly and outgoing.
Since these countries are know for their lambs and goats, we ordered a dish of each plus complementing it with side dishes; calamari pakora and chicken tikka masala momo. All were served with just the amount of spices. The main dishes - the sauce was thick and delicious, especially the apricot lamb. Normally, other restaurants that I ate at, their sauces where thinly thick with oil seen. I would definitely recommend any of the apricot dishes. You won't be disappointed. The chicken tikka masala momo is enough as a full meal. It taste better with rice. Calamari pakora I did not like. Somehow it was not what I expected.
There were two types of Indian desserts; almond kheer and gulam jamun. Almond kheer is usually made with almonds, sugar, saffron, cardamoms and whole milk. Somehow, I did not taste all the ingredients. It was lacking something and wasn't flavorful. It was like an ordinary rice pudding. Gulam jamun was not soaked nor soggy as other restaurants. It was just right to compliment my meal. It comes with...
