Maybe I was still euphoric from the Warriors win the night before, or just the pleasant walk through Inner Sunset, but I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect meal in this cozy nook on a Sunday April afternoon.

I enjoyed a warm bowl of shrimp wonton soup, which they made spicy on my request, and my partner, sweating, relished his griddled bean curd pot, claiming, “Finally, someone who respects spice.” We also ordered the bean jelly appetizer, which was a close replica of the liangpi from my childhood summers in Chengdu. Around us, two middle-aged college men were plotting their next steps in life over bowls of peanut noodles, leaning in to make sure they really understood each other. Two parents and their adult son put aside their expectations of each other and shared plates of garlic fried string beans and grilled fish, collecting the bones on a separate plate. Six USF students each got the lunch special, so there were copious bowls on their table. They were laughing gayly. The bowls and plates here were all porcelain or metal, so I didn’t have to worry about microplastics leaching into my food.

“I haven’t had a meal like this in a while,” my partner said. “It’s pushing my limits.”

He was on his third water glass refill. My partner can’t go a week without turbo-blasting his sinus system with extreme chili, and it seemed he finally met his match.

We asked for a to-go box for the unfinished bean curds. Serving sizes were generous without being overwhelming. And service was invisible in a good way; I felt none of the anxiety I get from some social interactions and suddenly our plates were cleared and water refilled. It allowed my partner and me to give our full attention to the meal and each other’s company. The only downside was that I felt the appreciation too fully and had to break off to write this review. I only hope that my sacrifice will allow more people to visit this special place.

When I told my partner I was reviewing the place, he said, “you had Type 1 fun but my fun...

Loved the spicy food here. We got dan dan noodles - wonderfully spicy with Sichuan peppercorns. Lovely hand made noodles. Nice sesame/peanut sauce. I liked the mouth heat. It was a bit strong for my dinner companion, though. We also got the wontons in chili pepper sauce. Again, wonderfully spicy with Sichuan peppercorn flavor. The wontons were spicier than the noodles. The wontons were also house made, they were large and flat, unlike a lot of wontons I've had before We also had the dry fried string beans. They were good but not fantastic. The only food complaint I had was that the tea was lukewarm and very bland. But they did come by frequently to refill the tea and water glasses. I'll certainly be back, and get some of the other noodles dishes, as well as the wontons and other dumplings. The service was attentive, the staff cared. When my dinner companion had trouble with the very long dan dan noodles, one of the staff came by with a knife and cut it into smaller pieces! The atmosphere is fine. It's clean, and being in the Sunset, where it's cold and foggy and drizzly, the dining room was cold. If you like spicy Sichuan food, you need to check...

You can delete my review by paying money to YELP,

But you can not delete here!

firstly, we went there several times, the food they recommended us were bad at all.

Those which we ordered by ourselves were ok.

I think they were not good because we forgot our belongings but they said did not know at all.

They claimed that they helped me to looking for it but in fact? I don't know.

Specially, after I posted my review on YELP,

The owner sent me a mesage which is very impolite and said that it was my fault and no one should have looked it for us.

I was surprised.

A good restaurant should improve their service when facing the negative review, but they do not,

They criticize their customers and send some horrible mails and delete the negative reviews by money.

Everyone has the power to tell us their experience in your place,

So give up your foolish behavior and think about how to improve your bad service!

There is few people in your place in spite of the noon,

Why?

You know the answer.

No problem , if you can , delete this by paying money...

I ordered happy hour food delivery from here and was pretty satisfied with what I received. It’s nice that this place participates in the DoorDash happy hour promotions so that I can try multiple dishes for a late lunch or early dinner without having to go out and struggle to find parking on Irving Street. Cucumber salad: 3.5/5 The flavor was very garlicky. I didn’t really taste much vinegar or soy sauce. I think it would be better if it were less salty but still glad I ordered it, as the crispness of the cucumbers balanced out the meal. Dry sautéed string beans: 4/5 These string beans had pretty standard flavour, but they were longer than average and slightly undercooked. I still enjoyed them, especially since they were less greasy than what I’ve received from some other places. Iron pot fish filets: 5/5 The fish fillets were amazing with all the Sichuan spices and chili oil. If I dined in, I would likely ask them to increase the spiciness, but they still taste great at the default spice level.
