I'm an architectural nerd and I love historic buildings, so when we went to the Harold Washington Library I automatically got excited. I thought the library was historic because the pediments are classical and the roofs have allegorical figures. I found out later it was designed in 1987 and built in 1991. They fooled me! Oh well. I still love the building and the library is massive! Nine floors and over 750,000 square feet! Just like other public libraries, they have free wifi which is a life saver. There is always a wide variety of new books, and the audio book collection is also impressive. So much knowledge and skills-building completely free with a library card.
