Very surprised to see such positive reviews - I feel obligated to share as this was one of the strangest restaurant experiences I’ve had in a while. Had brunch with three others and experienced mediocre food and extremely slow service. We ordered cappuccinos and a tea with our food order. Cappuccinos didn’t come out until we were halfway through eating (25 mins) and the tea (just tea) didn’t come until we were nearly done eating. It had almost no tea leaves in it. There is a $3 charge to have eggs scrambled instead of fried because “the kitchen isn’t set up for scrambled eggs and it requires extra time and equipment.” I got them anyways - they were cold with unmelted cheese in them and a tad bit watery and overworked. This was alongside a very small amount of cold, underseasoned boiled potatoes topped with not-quite-melted shredded cheese. If it wasn’t $153 pre-tip for 4 people I wouldn’t care as much.
The most bizarre experience was when the owner / chef’s partner came by asking for feedback on the meal. I politely let her know that the coffees were extremely delayed and the tea even later, to which she told me “well, we only have one barista for all of these people” gesturing around the restaurant as if doing this faster was impossible. (The “barista” was not dedicated to coffee). I agreed it was quite busy and suggested that perhaps another set of hands on drinks, plus not relying on the barista to deliver them all himself, could ensure folks got their coffees before their food. “Wellllll, that would be a lot” she dismissed. I also said it was a bit surprising for a brunch place to charge $3 for scrambled eggs (on top of a $21 egg plate) to which she replied “well my husband is the chef and he takes a lot of extra care with them - everyone understands that they are special and totally worth it.” Why do you ask customers for feedback if you just make excuses for what you receive feedback on? After reading responses to other reviews, it’s clear you take constructive feedback as someone not “getting” your concept or food, and just go on to explain why you do something. Maybe you should actually consider the feedback - accept that you are not delivering on some peoples’ reasonable expectations and strive to improve your operation so that you can do so.
Again, if either the food or the experience was above average I’d let it go....
Read moreWhat a delightful place! Excellent food presented beautifully. Everything was so fresh.
We sat at a large table I. The middle of the dining area with three other couples. Each couple was their own party of two. Even though none of us knew each other it was cozy and friendly to share this large table.
We started with their freshly baked mini biscuits. An order consists of 4 biscuits, two flavors of their homemade jam and a very small dollup of butter. The biscuits arrived warm and were crisp and crunchy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, absolutely perfect. Could have used about double the amount of butter but tasty never the less. The biscwere about te dude of a fifty cent piece. Delicious starter.
Our meals arrived quickly but not in a rushed way. We shared the basic avocado toast and the BLT. Both were just right. Not too much or too little of anything. The bacon was one of their specialties and the flavor came through in the BLT. Next time I would order bacon added to my avacado toast. The BLT cane with a small portion of salad of cucumber, tomato and mini raddish slices in a very light and tangy dressing.
Their bacon rivals the more famous millionaire's bacon.
We stopped here quite by random and definitely...
Read moreLovely cozy brunch/lunch cafe serving organic and local food, which is only open Friday to Saturday from 9-3. Has a charming and classy feel. The ambience is calming, with sleek white tables, natural wood, vintage-style calligraphy and metal chairs, and relaxing chill music. There are only a few indoor tables, but the big community table and long wooden bar make this establishment suitable for individuals or groups of different sizes. There's also a cozy custom-built outdoor covered parklet with more tables, built from beautiful wood. The menu is on the shorter side, but each dish is a unique chef creation made from deliciously fresh ingredients and plated to perfection. The avocado toast (regular or ricotta variety) are both fantastic; one of the best I've ever had, though it was a bit on the small side. The menu is a bit pricier than other places, due to the high quality. There's a long drink menu, including mimosas (with choice of Blood Orange or Pomegranate juice), coffee, tea, lattes, wine, beer, and juice. The service was good and the staff were very friendly. Overall, this is a lovely place to grab a fresh morning or midday meal on your own or with a few friends, and I've already returned...
