Bay Area Locals Rave About | Popular & Delicious Mexican 🇲🇽 Cuisine

I ordered the Garlic Shrimp bowl. Though I was impressed with the looks of the meal, I was disappointed in the taste. For it being “garlic” shrimp, it lacked garlic and/or the flavor of garlic. My sister and nephew both ordered the Shrimp Diablo tacos that was supposed to come with a side of rice and beans. They forgot to give them their rice and beans and the description of the tacos said it would come with strips of poblano—it didn’t. The corn tortillas tasted old and the meat—also lacked flavor. The only salsa we had that had flavor was the one on my plate. While in San Francisco, I won’t be choosing this place again to eat Mexican food. The restaurant is nice and clean. The decor is interesting and really cool. But the food, it lacks big time in Mexican flavors.

The roasted salsa was amazing, wish they'd poured something similar to that over my wet burrito. Instead the green sauce was more sour and bland. Hardly any meat in the burrito (Al pastor) but all the other ingredients were well balanced. I think I was expecting taqueria kind of Mexican food but this tasted more like it was "white" Mexican food. Something seemed to taste kind of like margarine too. I wouldn't eat here again only because I like the authentic Mexican food but I'd definitely buy that salsa in jar.

“Alright, fellow San Franciscans and adventurous visitors, listen up! If your taste buds are screaming for some Mexican cuisine with a twist, Little Chihuahua breaks the mold and deserves your attention. This isn’t your typical taco shop; it’s a haven for carnivores, vegans and anyone looking to spice things up. Here’s why it’s a standout:

This place has a great menu made with fresh ingredients and has a vegan-friendly menu that’ll even make your meat-loving uncle raise an eyebrow in curiosity.

My customized gluten-free, wet, soy chorizo burrito with black beans and sautéed mushrooms, was epic! But beware, it’s as big as a baby seal – I managed to finish mine, but it was a close call and my girlfriend was impressed.

Now, it’s a bit pricier than your usual taqueria – we’re talking two tacos, a burrito, and a can of wine for a cool $50. So maybe check your piggy bank first. And a hot tip: my burrito was not as warm as I would have liked. I wanted the experience of sunny California, not the foggy side of the Golden Gate!

In all, I’m giving Little Chihuahua a solid four and a half stars. It’s a gem, but just like our city, it’s not perfect. Still, definitely worth a visit!”

Vegan Fried Plantain - This dish is a game changer. It’s not just the crispy, sweet plantains that’ll get you; it’s the perfect mix of roasted bell peppers, fresh pico de gallo, and smoky chile salsa that brings this dish to life. A true fusion of flavors! Grilled Veggie & Soyrizo - Think you know soyrizo? Think again. Paired with roasted cauliflower, grilled corn, poblanos, and onions, this dish elevates the humble soy chorizo to new heights. It’s a symphony of smoky, spicy, and savory that’ll have you rethinking vegan options. TLC Regular - Simple but extraordinary, featuring the freshest pico de gallo, crisp cabbage salad, and that signature smoky chile salsa. It’s the kind of dish that makes you appreciate the beauty of fresh, quality ingredients. Make it Super - For an extra $2, you can add a protein punch to your meal. Choose from soy chorizo, grilled vegetables, wild mushrooms, or even vegan beans (pinto or black, refried or not). It’s customization at its finest, and a dream for those who love to mix and match. Tortilla Choices - They’ve got everyone covered. Flour, whole wheat, and even gluten-free options (for a small extra charge) ensure that no one misses out on the goodness.

In a city like San Francisco, where culinary innovation is the norm, Little Chihuahua stands out with its commitment to vegan-friendly, creative Mexican cuisine. It’s a place where traditional flavors meet modern dietary needs, all wrapped up in a warm tortilla. Trust me, your taste buds...

When I first arrived I asked about the gluten-free burritos and the first thing he said was that they were not a gluten-free restaurant but that they try their best to limit cross-contamination...so I ordered an El Pastor burrito and my husband ordered a steak burrito. I added some of the sauces from the sauce bar like pico de gallo, a spicy sauce, and the avocado sauce. Both of the burritos were delicious, however, 8 hours later both my husband and I were sick. I had severe cramps and diarrhea and my husband had diarrhea as well. This was not our typical reactions to gluten so I believe it was more likely food poisoning. I talked to Alex today about this and he was very apologetic and helpful. he said he could give us a refund but I mentioned to him that what's more important is to figure out why this happened, to make sure no one else gets sick. He told me that no one else got sick the rest of the day, but I reminded him that most people won't call or make the connection. He said that he would talk to the owner about it and make sure everything was kept at the proper temperature. I didn't see if they were using gloves when they filled and folded the burritos, but from now on, I will request that just in case it was a matter of unwashed employee hands... hopefully not. The place seemed clean otherwise, so it shouldn't be that! The music was too loud for us also... that's why I didn't give a 5 star...

I used to love TLC for one specific menu item, baby salmon burrito. The "baby" was a smaller size burrito, I have a hard time finishing the full size burrito, and no one wants a leftover 1/4 burrito. I would go here a couple times a month, it was my favorite "not actually mexican" burrito. Came with chips and a solid salsa bar, perfect meal.

However in the past year they have changed the menu significantly for the worse: the options are reduced (they canceled the baby burritos and a bunch of other items) meals no longer come with chips (you have to purchase chips for $4) the portions are smaller, I can now finish a regular size burrito when I couldn't before AND the prices went up by a LOT. I used to get a $12 meal here within the past couple years, now the only comparable burrito is $17 (and no chips).

Even more annoying today I was charged extra because instead of super (+$2 for cheese, guac, AND sour cream) I asked for cheese (+$1), guac (+1.50) and no sour cream. I guess the charge is extra $0.50 to leave the sour cream out?? And there was no discernible cheese in the $17.50 burrito anyway.

It doesn't seem like the new menu is a hit with anyone, there were only a couple people eating there when it used to be so busy you'd have to wait for a table. Unlikely to go back anytime soon, I'd recommend street taco on...
