So late with this review but I couldnât remember the name of this place! But 2 years ago for my 24th birthday my sister and I went here for my birthday, it was meant to be a big group of us but everyone flaked last minute (story of my life). My wedding got called off 1 month before my 24th birthday, (our wedding was meant to be 2 days after my birthday) so my sister and i still decided weâre gonna make the hour and half drive to SF anyway after our nephews birthday party, we got to SF around 7pm we went on google and just looked up âclubs in SFâ. Then we found this place, so we hopped in the uber and headed over. I think we stood in line for a good hour or so before being let in. While in line we made friends with some people and we stayed together all night. We had told them we were out for my birthday, and so they insisted to buy the first round. We danced and drank all night and overall had an amazing time. The entire place sang me happy birthday at midnight and honestly it made a bad birthday one of my most memorable. 10/10 Toad Hall. I hope to see you this year for my 26th...
Read moreFour men of color (predominantly of African-American descent and none under 40) approached the bar and were asked for our IDs at about 7:00pm on a Friday night. This is/was not alarming at the time. Subsequently and upon closer observation, it was noted the doorman was not performing this duty uniformly with certain patrons and especially with those who were not people of color. The possibility exists the doorman was familiar with certain patrons and not others. I mentioned this to members of the bar staff and informed the doorman he should be performing the ID check indifferently to all patrons to avoid the appearance of selective admittance. He became defensive and said he always performs said action with all patrons. I was/am disappointed with the bar's reaction and left. In these times, when it appears certain people of color may be treated in/unequally, I would recommend some sensitization to the staff...
Read moreThe former Pendulum is now Toad Hall. Despite the odd name, we had lots of fun here where we ended our night of bar hopping.
ATMOSPHERE: The place has been totally remodeled. It's now airier and brighter, and sports a good sized dance floor, big bar, a few high tops, and a small back room which I peeked into. It's the most "clubby" vibe I've experienced in the Castro so far, better than Badlands IMO. The room was also perfectly lit, not dark and shady like at other places. The crowd was a mix of ages and personalities, dancing to a blend of pop, dance, and R&B.
SERVICE: We sat at the bar and received fast and friendly service from the male bartender. He kept the bar top clean and drinks flowing. Beer prices were average.
OVERALL: Nice digs, friendly staff and patrons, great...
