Uncle Benny's Donut & Bagel — Restaurant in San Francisco

Ever since Covid hit and basically changed the way we live our lives I’ve been on the search for businesses that cater to “night owl” people like me and my husband. I’ve really missed being able to go to the grocery store or get something delicious to eat. When I first noticed this bakery in my neighborhood, the Sunset district, I really didn’t pay it much attention because I already had a favorite doughnut shop across town that was open 24hrs, delicious and well worth the drive. Fast forward to around 2 months ago and I was doing some late night searching for something to satisfy a sweet tooth after doing my banking at my local ATM. I saw that Uncle Benny’s Donut & Bagel Shop was open and brightly lit by neon signs. The front door was open and when I walked in I was greeted by one of the 2 friendliest and sweetest women I’ve ever encountered, especially at 4 am. Daisy and Lily are so nice and made me feel like I was a friend they’ve known for a long time. After helping me with my order and also suggesting some donuts that I never had before like the Ube, which is now one of my husbands favorites. He calls it “the purple one “. We also love the “Tiger tail”, which is a weekend special only. It’s like a glazed cinnamon twist only it’s the size of a real tigers tail with a yummy chocolate and cinnamon swirl circling around it that melts in your mouth. The donut holes are also the best I’ve ever had and so are the muffins. Everything is super fresh and actually stays that way for days after unlike other donut shops. They also have an extensive menu of specialty breakfast sandwiches, bagels, smoothies and hot beverages like coffee and tea. They are open at 4am and close at 5pm which is great for nighttime people like me. They are also very accessible for disabled people like myself and plenty of parking. They are also very nice and carry my purchase outside to my car, being that I walk with a cane, without being asked to do so. That is what I call the best customer service EVER!!! I very rarely write reviews, but the level of customer service that I received wholeheartedly warrants it.

I arrived at Uncle Benny’s about 10 minutes before closing (I didn’t intend to; I was walking from 18th and Lincoln in the rain, so the weather slowed me down). This was my first time going to Uncle Benny’s; however, I was greeted and treated as though I were a regular. The staff maintained a welcoming, friendly, and professional demeanor, despite 10 minutes until closing. They didn’t rush me or make me feel like I was an inconvenience; I felt as though they truly appreciated my business. They even gave me several complimentary donuts, knowing that they were closing soon. Their customer service was unmatched and truly stood out amongst other businesses.

They bake the bread, donuts, muffins, bagels, etc., on-site, fresh, every day!!! Good cup of coffee made to your taste! Iced coffee. Frapuccinos. Vietnamese coffee with a delicious Bunh Mi. Fruit smoothies are so creamy. The donuts are sooooo good. I like the Ube, Chocolate glazed, sugar, and the donut holes are the best. Light and airy and too easy to eat. Sandwiches are big, fresh and delicious. I like #5 on Everything bagel for breakfast. #8 on pesto bagel with jalapeños is a special treat I enjoy at lunch. #20 is so good with everything on any bun or bagel. Anything with the fried chicken is crunchy and fresh and delicious. Line can be out the door for a reason. The people are just the nicest and work hard to get things right! They have something for kids...
