I used to tell everybody to eat here. Sadly I don't anymore. The past three times that I have called my pizza pickup order in I've had to wait almost 45mins to an hour because the order was never given to the kitchen, or the kitchen got my order wrong and had to re-do from scratch. It wouldn't be that big a deal accept that when I get home I find that the pizza is undercooked and soggy or the under layer looks like a frozen uncooked pizza made with bread crumb crust. And they raised the price $8.00! Look you can certainly get a good meal, most of the other items are good. I believe that most of the food is preprepared and just reheated here. Not homemade preprepared, rather made in a processing kitchen. I know for sure the soups are not made on site. My last gripe, the lady who owns it is sweet. She tries to smile and make sure everybody is accommodated. However, I usually feel rushed and the wait staff is micromanaged to death by her. It makes for unhappy wait staff, in turn causing customers to feel stressed out by the time that they are done with their 4 min dining experience. That's my experience recently, maybe I've just gone on the wrong night the last few times. You should experience it for yourself, I used to really enjoy...
Read moreBest place in SF for hearty comfort food. Very reasonable price for the quality and quantity of each serving.
VPP is a small place that luckily still remains untouched by gentrification of the Mission District. There are no dishes with foo-foo names, fancy plating or tiny portions decorated for aesthetics, unless the aesthetics is seeing good food prepared well.
There is yet to be a dish that we have not enjoyed. The servings are so big that I always have leftovers for the next day.
Meals are served with vegetables (usually a mix/combo of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots or squash), starch option of rice, mashed potato or pasta and awesomely good entrees: Lamb shanks - very tender and flavorful and always need for two meals Pork chops - two thick slices that are very juicy (seriously... who actually can make pork chops juicy??!!) and delicious Roasted chicken - wow. It’s good. Fried chicken
As I write this, i realized that their pot roast was a bit on the dry side. That’s perhaps the only item that I did not enjoy.
Pasta and pizza here are also delicious. There are no wrong choices, except the pot roast, for me.
A must...
Read moreMe and my buddy were super hungry in SF and I wanted to have a local pizza , wow—this was hands down the best New York style pizza I’ve eaten outside of New York! The crust had the perfect balance of crispy and chewy yet still maintaining structural integrity and the toppings were absolutely loaded. (See video below!) Every bite was packed with thick, hearty fillings—juicy sausage, flavorful pepperoni, fresh veggies, and just the right amount of gooey cheese. Most pizzas with this thick of a topping get very soggy but the crust was still thin and crispy. You can really taste the quality and care that goes into their pizza!
I ordered takeout, and even after the drive after 10 minutes, it was still hot, fresh, and incredibly delicious. The person at the counter was super friendly and welcoming, making the pickup process quick and easy. It’s always nice when a great meal comes with great service, even for takeout!
This place is a must-try for any pizza lover in the SF area, especially the amount of food they give you. I’ll definitely be back for more. Don’t miss out on this sleeper hit of a restaurant,...
