I decided to give Red Chicken a try after many years of passing by it. I have to say, its a really nice and cozy mom n' pop shop that offers a concise selection of excellent food. I went during slow hours where there were only 2-3 tables seated so it was a pleasant and relaxing place to eat at. I am not sure how busy it gets during the lunch and dinner rushes however. Additionally, there is a television for customers to enjoy while waiting for their food.
For price conscious individuals, I would highly recommend sticking with the food sets/trays. They give you a bowl of rice, a good helping of your choice of entree, and papaya salad or soup depending on what you ordered.
The reason I gave Red Chicken a 4 star is because of the food. The food is really good, don't get me wrong. But I believe if you were to go to another local Thai restaurant they would do a much better job. I ordered the beef set that came with your standard thai bbq beef with sauce, rice, and papaya salad. Starting off with the papaya salad, it was way too sour. I think I got the bottom of the bucket of dressing for the salad. I am used to having a much more subtle and sweeter side papaya salad, so that may be why. The beef cooked perfectly with a nice thin brown crust and a chewy red in the middle. However the ultimate thai sauce that makes the thai beef so amazing lacked flavor. It was definitely subpar.
HOWEVER, I believe Red Chicken is a great choice if you are by yourself or in a small party that would like to eat individually rather than the typical family style. The food is good and it is worth a try. I am definitely coming back during lunch to try out...
Read moreThis food is delicious! There's 3 different kinds of chicken - they're all amazing, and they're all very different from each other. There's this steamed kind (all white chicken) that looks too healthy to be yum, but is SO J U I C Y and it has this great herb-y flavor that I ain't never had before. It's surprisingly good! Then, there's this fantastic fried chicken. And, last, there's this marinated, grilled chicken. All hacked into bite-sized pieces and no bones! I honestly don't know which kind I like the best! And, they give you all these sauces - no idea what they are, but they're ALSO DELICIOUS. There's this one white one that tastes like ginger and garlic - damn, that's good! I could eat all these sauces with just a spoon. And, it's like the rice was cooked with a bit of oil in the pot - it's plain ol' rice, but you want to eat a ton of it! Each order ends up being a lot of food for the price. I just did take-away - a rice set with steamed & fried chicken (comes with a large container of this really great broth)(was this meant for 2 people?!), and an order of steamed & grilled chicken. And, they gave me 11 containers of sauces. Some look like each other, but others look different. I'm so full. I'll try them all out later. Thank you, Red Chicken!...
Read moreSingapore Chicken Rice (taste similar to Hainan style) that comes with rice, sauces and chicken soup $8.99. Takes credit and cash.
Chicken and rice is similar to Hainan style chicken and rice. Chicken is soft. Rice is different. It tasted like a salty Hainan style sticky rice that was very very flavorful. I love sticky rice but I'm not a fan of it being part of my entree because it's too heavy on my stomach (even though Thai dishes are eaten with side sticky rice). I prefer it to be a small part of my dessert instead. Soup is decent, light. Seemed like just leftover light and a bury oily chicken broth. Sauces: brown sauce is nice with that kick of spice. Ginger jar seem to be mixed with olive oil and on every table by the chili jar.
I tried the crispy chicken version and it's not for me. A bit tough. In between fried chicken a jerky but way softer than jerk.
Good for locals craving Savory's Hainan chicken or light chicken but don't want to wait or drive as far. It's not the same but can't complain for being so close. And it's new, so I'm sure I'll need to give it...
