2nd update to my review:
I really want to love and support this place, but they really need to get it together. 2 weeks ago I drove out from Riverside to give them one more try. Google said they were open, but they were closed at 5pm on a Friday. I called last weekend, they were open, so I drove out to try again.
First, ya'll need to nail down some recipes. I've been here 6 times and the sides have tasted completely different every time. It's like it's a different restaurant from week to week.
Second, the ribs, pork and brisket were great, but the chicken and sausage were SO OLD it was revolting. The chicken was so dry and old it broke into tough, sharp, shards that cut the roof of my mouth when i attempted to take a bite. The flavor was rancid- a mix between expired food and ancient fryer oil. Beyond that, it was so old and rotten that the bones of the chicken literally crumbled into pieces when I picked it up. The sausages were also old, dry and tough.
Please, take this advice from a former restaurant manager- this place has the potential to be a gem, but you need some consistency and quality control or you'll never make it... especially with the location you're in. You all need to put use by dates on your food and throw it out when it's bad. Serving expired items to save money by not wasting product will lose you more money in the long run. Throw it out, serve fresh food and then you can ensure your customers will come back and your business will stay open.
I really hope you all take this advice because this place really does have potential and really is special. When ya'll are on point, it is the best bbq anywhere around. Unfortunately, that only happened once out of the 6 times I've dined at your restaurant.
Updating my review:
I loved this place and recommended to everyone I knew. I've been here about 6 times in the last 3-4 months and the last two times they completely fell off.
We always get the fam bam. The last two times the chicken was completely cold, hard as a rock and inedible. The ribs were cold and dry as well.
The yams have been completely different every time, but last night they were overly sweet, otherwise flavorless and fairly inedible. The macaroni amd cheese was completely bland, it literally tasted like water. The baked beans were okay, but also pretty flavorless. The pork amd brisket were tasty as usual.
I'm really disappointed because we drove from 45 minutes away to get this and on the way were talking about how awesome they are and how they will surely stay in business because they are so consistently awesome. But last nights food was the second experience in a row that the food was just not up to par.
I don't know what happened, but I really hope they can get back to the same quality and consistency we have all come to expect from big daddys.
Old review: This place is the real deal! Every single thing we got was absolutely perfect. Every meat had delicious smoked flavor. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and flavorful all the way through. The macaroni was cheesy, creamy and buttery. The yams were great, cornbread was great. We've traveled across the country and back trying bbq, this is the best we've had anywhere and it's close to home. Not only was the food fantastic but the service was great. You can really taste the love they put into their food. I will be back often and I hope to see these folks succeed.
If I could offer one piece of insight to the owners, a number system could make the drive thru run more efficiently. If at the window each car recieved a number to hang from their window, or to stick on the windshield, it may make it easier for the employees to find the customers in the parking lot. I...
Read moreYalllll Customer service upon arriving was good from the young man. I spent $50 and let’s just say I’m disappointed….I asked for a 3 meat combo 2 sides and I paid additional for extra side ….Ribs, briskets and rib tips well I got someone ribs alright these were boneless, the rib tips was like eating stew chicken (see pic for yourself) the one rib was okay can taste the smoke flavor , on the other hand the brisket was flavorless! the yams are giving canned yams , The Mac n cheese was mushy like powder cheese that doesn’t melt (and I just saw others are saying the same thing), the greens had some sort of cabbage cooked with them and over cooked with a lack of flavor. The bbq sauce was oily (see pictures) that definitely ain’t bbq sauce it’s an oil/vinegar base of some sort….something tasty to wash down all that was able to be eaten was the KOOL AID ! Now for the good the fish was good and flavorful this place should honestly stick to just fried fish ONLY , my sister order a chicken sandwich she took a bite and said it’s cold I said are you sure ? she said yes took a SECOND bite and she couldn’t eat it …we told the young man at the front he said there isn’t anything he could do (it was like I’m just the cashier vibes) so I asked for someone that could …so a young lady by the name of Unique came to the window and was saying she couldn’t do anything because she ate HALF of her sandwich (let’s be clear 2 bites definitely isn’t half , mam my 2 year old could tell you that’s not half he would tell you it’s not even a semi circle ! (See pictures) I grew up eating bbq I grew up in a restaurant so when I was told all the meat comes out of the same thing I knew this but as customer I don’t care I expect my food to be of a certain temperature you can’t just toast a bun and slap some cold meat in between and expected a customer to be satisfied but she did give her another cold chicken sandwich! While we were there I witnessed a lady say she had been waiting for a order the young lady tells her WE RAN OUT OF RIBS we tried to call the person who placed the order that poor lady was sitting outside in her car for atleast 20 min y’all have cameras so run it back if needed the proper thing to do would have been to ASK hey is anyone here waiting on a order for John Doe especially since you couldn’t reach them by phone but anyway !!!!! Another person went back to the window stating he still hadn’t gotten his food I guess there wait was a bit longer as there food may have been hotter in temperature who knows …. SPOILER ALERT !!!!!! I do food reviews today I picked a spot and traveled 30 min felt like finding some good eats and creating content (TikTok upload coming soon) you never know who’s coming to your establishment customer service and a clean bathroom is everything while there was no bathroom to review the customer service was definitely unique…… oh and FYI if you decide to eat outside at the tables there are flies everywhere for the amount of cameras they have up in every corner y’all can afford a insect zapper this spot could offer a lot with the right food and the vibes throw some lights add a speaker play some music for guest since the wait is rather long idk this is one of those places that you wonder how the heck are they still in business so long maybe new cooks ? maybe just a bad day ? I’m always big on supporting my people which is why none of my reviews are paid for just honest and raw will update review once video upload...
Read moreOk, now if y'all are looking for your new favorite hole in the wall mom and pop restaurant, this is it!! O... M... G... Where do I start?!! We ordered the 6 piece catfish, the pulled pork sandwich plate, with Mac and cheese, corn bread, and collard greens as the sides, sweet tea for drinks, and peach cobbler for dessert!! The catfish was so full of flavor, tender, juicy, not super greasy, perfectly breaded and seasoned. They give pickles and peppers, wheat bread, hot sauce and tarter sauce with the catfish. Their hot sauce and their tarter sauce were both really robust with flavor. While the catfish definitely doesn't need any sauce because it's super moist and flavorful on its own, both sauces are perfect for their catfish. The pulled pork plate comes with 2 sides, we chose the Mac and cheese and their corn bread muffins, pickles and peppers and a side of BBQ sauce. We also added a small side of collard greens for a third side. The pork was super moist and tender and almost melts in your mouth. The BBQ sauce they give you for the pork is sweet and tangy but balanced very well with the pork to compliment and enhance rather than just overtake all together. The Mac and cheese was cooked perfectly, so the noodles weren't overcooked and was covered every inch by ooey gooey cheesy goodness perfection. The corn bread muffins were lightly sweetened and surprisingly moist for cornbread. The collard greens were an explosion of flavor in every bite, tender but not overly cooked, and in my humble opinion some of the best I've ever had! The sweet tea was also pretty amazing and delicious. Now.... Y'all... Do not go here without ordering one of their peach cobblers!!! Hands down, the BEST PEACH COBBLER you'll find in california!! I can honestly say that Big Daddy's Bar-B-Que has brought "the real South" to southern...
