Bill's Cafe - Bascom — Restaurant in San Jose

Bill's Cafe is a quaint little place to sit and have breakfast. At 8:00am, it was not too crowded, we requested a booth and the last one was across from the kitchen where you could hear the most of "dish noise". We did not mind as it was a booth and were able to converse. Our waiter, Jorge was personable, attentive and kind. We took a few minutes to order this being our first time but he anticipated that we were ready to order and was not far away but was right there when we were ready to order. I ordered Bill's Original Skillet which was plentiful and filling and my partner ordered the Country Fried Steak and eggs which was equally tasteful and filling. Our order was immediately taken and less than 10 minutes later our fresh, hot breakfast arrived at the table. Coffee was refilled without request and enough half-And-half to last through our stay. Jorge anticipation of things needed, napkins, coffee and asking us "how is everything, was spot on without being too invasive, I thought he is spectacular as our wait person. Probably not my favorite Bill's Cafe location but the overall experience is ok. Any Bills that you go to, prepare to wait. It's a very popular chain. Since it was just me, I was able to grab a seat at the bar immediately. The food is good, and I love their pancakes. For this particular visit I had the vegetable scramble, pancake and coffee. One issue I had was that once my food finally came out, there was a piece of ham that I noticed. I called the server over and he proceeded to tell me to dig through it and see if there was more, and it's probably only 1 piece. As I'm ordering a vegetarian dish, I'd expect that to be cooked in a separate section. I also didn't expect to have to become an explorer to see if there was more instead of them remaking it properly. They finally took it back and remade it. But obviously that wasn't the experience I was looking for. Service was also a bit slow, not sure if it's because the bar area is located in an area right in front of server pickup or if it was busier than normal for them. The food here was so delicious (I Built my own omelette and got a buttermilk pancake instead of toast, plus a Giant mimosa and a coffee). The mimosa alone was well worth it, it came in a bowl that was a lot bigger than I expected, so prepare yourself for that. The potatoes were soooo good and the pancake was pure perfection. Only problem: I was first given the wrong pancake (the Almond Joy pancake instead of the buttermilk one, but this issue was quickly resolved) and I was also given an omelette with the wrong ingredients. There was ham in my omelette instead of mushrooms (I had asked for the five ingredients in my omelette to all be veggies) which would have been a serious problem if I was a vegetarian or didn't eat pork, but I still ate it because I have neither restriction and in the omelette's defense, even though it was wrong, it was still very tasty. Just like, watch out to make sure you're given what you ordered, just in case. It was a very busy Saturday morning when I went, too, so that probably also contributed...
