First off, this restaurant has a very flavorful menu. I ordered the beef suqaar, and my partner ordered the kay kay. Our food came with a plain dressed chopped lettuce salad, and a whopping portion of "entree." Unfortunately, I could taste that the vegetables were not fresh. They had obviously been frozen for a while. I really wanted to like the food, but both my partner's food and my own were swimming in oil. We both ended up getting stomach aches from the grease on the car ride home.
The cleanliness of the restaurant was a little dubious from the start. The front cashier area had quite a bit of litter strewn about the floor. We were told we could choose our own table; we found several small tables covered in grime. Since the small dining room was pretty full, we couldn't be too picky. I'm honestly not surprised about the grime though. The dining room and main kicthen are separated only by a mid-height false-wall. The whole dining room appeared as if it were covered in a light layer of caked grease--much like what you would find on the backsplash of a stovetop.
Would I rate this place as amazing? No. Was the food tasty? Yes, but only passably. Would I come back? Maybe if the cooks cut down on the grease, and the staff give the dining room a proper scrubbing.
TL;DR
The upside: seasoned well, the food is halal, and the restaurant seemed popular with the local muslim community.
Downside: filthy dining room, greasy food, ingredients not...
Read moreJubba is an East African Somali Halal restaurant. They have authentic halal Somali cuisine and food is always fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place and have tried every single item on the menu. Menu is not too big, i would say just the right menu. There Sambusa/Samosa are the best and you won’t regret it when you order it. What I would say just not order one, as when you will eat you would want more. I always order at least three :) They have sports plate with meat choices of beef, goat or chicken. You can have it with rice or pasta. Or you can do half pasta or rice. Pasta and rice sautéed with mix veggies. Sports plate is enough for three person. You can also order the same as an individual plate as well. Good quantity for the price you pay. They also have wraps and they are unique. You just won’t find a wrap like this in whole Bay Area. They use their house flat bread or called chapati. Wrap has choice of meat, sautéed veggies and their house white sauce and it is delicious. It’s a family owned restaurant and owners and family members are really nice and so down to earth. I have been coming to this place since 2012. I highly recommend this place for catering, family dinners or large groups. They get super busy over the weekends and dinner times. They also offer complimentary black tea and it has touch of spice and it is...
Read moreFirst time tonight. First impression as there was no air, it could use fans or another door open I found it stuffy however the sun was going down so it was tolerable. They hand you menu's, you seat yourself and go to the counter to order. We found it interesting for the most part the lunch and the dinner menus are nearly identical in price and description just rearranged from one page to next. Food is cooked up as ordered so it takes a bit of time but its fresh cooked. They offer a fish wrap for lunch that is not on the dinner menu which offers a beef or chicken wrap. Lol! The portions were large which they brought to us 3 gals with big appetites split 3 plates with about one plate of leftovers. The food is “Somali (Halal)” we shared the goat cutlet (not a cutlet) plate, the beef suqaar and the chicken Kay kay with bananas and bread. My Filipina friends thought it would be better with Plantains, I didnt vote. We ordered more to go but they didnt call or bring the order when it was ready. I nibbled a bit on the plates when I got home and it seems the meat is a lot chewier and bonier than at the restaurant, hopefully just bad luck. I also request extra green spicy sauce and did not receive any additional. The ladies room was clean enough but there were no paper towels which I find annoying. We...
