3/6/2023 Update: No matter how many times I ask Satoshi-san, this Sanraku location will not be bringing back Omakase 😔 However, quality of fish is still high and fresh so I still love coming for the Chirashi bowl or Sushi & Sashimi Platter / Sushi Tokujo. My friends also enjoy the cooked dishes too like unagi donburi or udon. And the service from the wait staff and chefs are consistently good and friendly. Admittedly, it's not quite the same experience as being at the bar and being individually served each nigiri and specialty dish and engaging with the chef. Good times... ---------- A hidden gem if you love Japanese sushi. However, that's not to say the typical rolls and savory appetizers & meals are not good here. They're actually far better tasting than at any other sushi restaurants. So my hats off to both the sushi chef and the kitchen chef. Personally, I always go for the Omakase or Sushi Tokujo AND I have to sit at the bar because you get to enjoy the genuine experience of connecting with the chef. Plus, I believe it's better paced when you receive one nigiri at a time versus all of them at once if seated at the table. They take reservations so make it a special date night at the bar, especially on a weeknight (sadly too crowded on Friday and Saturday for my taste but Sunday's are usually safe)!

Up until yesterday, I thought Sanraku was a decent option on the south side of San Jose. But after traveling to Tokyo and eating nigiri at Tsukiji Outer Market and at Robin Menlo Park this past month, I had issues with the sashimi and nigiri this time around. Visually the dishes looked nice. However, the sashimi was still chilled on the inside of the fish. There was little to no vinegar in the rice or the fish compared to nigiri and sashimi I had in Tokyo. We got the sushi and sashimi platter as well as another sashimi appetizer platter with hamachi and salmon. Piece after piece, it was virtually flavorless. Perhaps my expectations were too high after traveling to Tokyo and eating at Robin and Hashiri. But Chiba-san's Izakaya is about the same price and much closer to what I'm looking for in terms of authentic Edomae nigiri. Leichi also has quality sashimi and boxed nigiri. Maybe I caught them on an off-day but I don’t see the need to repeat this experience.

Great authentic sushi restaurant! My aesthetician friend took me here. Lunch time Omakase course was great. Beautiful presentation and fresh seafood with friendly chefs. 1/3/19 Went back for my boyfriend’s Birthday lunch. We ate so much and everything was delicious! Love Omakase. We particularly liked salmon and scallops. 10/20/19 Went back for lunch time Omakase course and disappointed with their service. Fish was good but very tiny. Soup was hardly warm after made us waited for a long time. Then they brought chicken dish while we were still eating previous dish. This was not the way they used to serve. Overall disappointed and we probably won't go back. The last time I was with my friend, we thought our sushi fish was very small and charge was high for that. TOO BAD!

My husband and I had such a wonderful experience here! And when we get such good service I always gotta leave a good review! Our server was so nice and had nothing but great recommendations. We were sad to hear he’s moving to Arkansas but we wish him the best of luck! It was also my birthday so he brought out some yummy mochi! The sushi chefs greeted us with big smiles as we came in. A very friendly but nice atmosphere, especially for in a mall! All the sushi was FRESH and DELICIOUS!! Which is super important when picking a sushi place. The pictures speak for themselves 😌 We will come again whenever we come back up to visit.

Sanraku at oakridge is one of my favorite japanese restaurant in the bay area. The unique part of this japanese establishment is NOT sushi or nigri but rather the choices of hot dishes! One of my absolute favor is really its chicken karage which is chicken thigh fried. There are also other hot dishes such as hot butter calm and salmon hamachi. Service wise is above average. Sometime it does take a long wait but it is worth it. The staff is friendly. The decor is also special it use wood slabs as wall to half separate thr mall and the restaurant. I also love its special japanese decoration anf remodeling!
