Tacos Chencho — Restaurant in San Jose

All the taco talk yesterday inspired me to search for San Jose's best 🌮s. Stop #1 on my journey is Tacos El Chencho on the corner of Story & White Rds in East San Jose which was nominated by a few people on my neighborhood site. Ironically, it's not far from my house and I always see the lines but have never been there. We tried the tacos al pastor 🍍(marinated pork), lengua 👅 (beef tongue), suedero🐮(beef brisket), buche 🐄 (pork belly) & chorizo🌶 (spiced sausage). First of all, I must say they have an impressive array of salsas and agua frescas available especially for a food truck. The salsas all tasted homemade and were very tasty! A couple of them were pretty hot 🔥and not for the weak of heart especially the cutesy orange habanero sauce. All the tacos were good, not blow my mind great, but very good. My favorite taco on this stop was the tacos al pastor and I liked the corn tortillas.

On a side note - they only take cash 💰and do not post prices. You just order and they tell you how much it is, which was very reasonable. I've heard from regulars the prices vary from day to day which could be the everchanging cost of food & supplies. I can't recall the exact prices but I think it came out to about $3 a taco & maybe $5 for agua fresca. That was...

I'm speechless! In yearsssss ( when I say years,'over 19) I didn't get a yummy carne asada taco! I never order asada anywhere, cause of the lack of flavors, but we tried this place today (02/22/2025) yesss Mexicans eat tacos for breakfast too! And it has to be so good!! well! This is the place! I ate an alambre scared to try the asada, but my bf gets asada always! And told me it was bomb worth to try! I ended up ordering 2 asada tacos extra.. one for him and one for me!! And the sweet person that was cooking gave me another al pastor taco, whichhhhh I freaking loved! The sweet lady at the cashier so helpful and kind! In the daytime these guys are on 2920 alum Rock in the parking lot. I don't know if they move somewhere else during the night time but all I got to say is these guys are killing it! They use yellow corn tortillas they brush their tortillas with a little bit of the oil that's coming from the flavor pot their tacos or seasoned perfection the meat is a little crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside I cannot say enough about these tacos come see for yourself this is my new favorite spot! I just scarfed down six tacos oh my goodness these guys are hidden gem.
