El Gato de Lavapies — Restaurant in San Juan

We went to this Spanish rest for the first time as it's was recc by friends. Our group was of 5 and we recieve the best service by Yocelyn. The atmosphere of the restaurant is of tranquility and peace. We tried as appetizers the shrimps pil pil, the ham and the cod croquettes as well as the Albondigas and the Hojaldras. They were all excellent. For dinner we had 3 rices Paella style including the Negro con Chipis, the Txluetas and the Abarda rice. My god, they were amazing. The best one is the black rice. I found about this place on IG in september 2024 and immediately I added it to my "I want to go" list. It's a hidden gem. The facade easily gets you confused about wondering "where I got into"? But once inside you get greeted by Jocelyn and Chef Jorge Masó like "mi casa es su casa" vibe and instantly you know that you landed the right spanish restaurant. Small, cozy. I was transported to Spain. Every dish exceeded any expectation I could have had. Everything was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. We received a tour of the entire place and had a private dinner. We could go and talk to the chef as he prepared the food to understand the food and the process behind his magic.
