Tony Gemignani is a genius when it comes to making pizza, plain & simple. He's a world renowned chef and it really shows in his food. I first tried his pizza at his original restaurant, Pyzano's in Castro Valley, way back in the late 90's. It's closed since then, but Slice House carries on the tradition of excellent pizza. I ordered a 13" pepperoni pizza, which came out to about $21 or so (before tip). I picked it up to go on a saturday afternoon, shortly after they opened, so there was only a table of people inside when I arrived. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but it's a bit on the small side and I can imagine it fills up quickly. Luckily they offer outdoor seating as well. The staff was great and very attentive; I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. The pizza itself was amazing. The best pepperoni pizza i've ever had. The crust & toppings were incredibly flavorful; each slice was covered in pepperoni. The 13" pie is a bit small, so if you're like me and can put down 2-3 slices easy, this size is for 1-2 people at most. You won't find better pizza in the Bay Area. I've also tried their pizza at their other location on 2nd st. In SF and the quality is just as good.

Walk in here with my brothers and son. Was not busy at all. Always wanted to try this spot since I heard the reviews for all the folks that live in SL. Atmosphere was great, felt homey. Service was great since the guy was very patient. I’ll be honest I did not know what I wanted. They did had some display by the slices. Detroit paesano caught our attention. We also went with their recommend pie they referred. Took the food home and took pics of it. Now for the actual taste. Tried the recommended pizza first. Crust was awesome, crunchy, chewy. The sauce was a sweet marinara, and they had fresh mozzarella. Fresh mozzarella was delicious but I’m not a fan of the marinara.overall I’ll rate that pizza a 6/10. Now for that Detroit pizza. The first bite was divine, savory marinara sauce with pepperoni, meat ball, mushrooms. It was also like a deep dish pizza. It was definitely on point, crispy ,crunch ,chewy crust. 8.5/10, 9/10 when I added their crush red pepper to add a really decent kick.

Now our favorite pizza place!!! We've had similar ny style crusts, but we really love how chewy and thin this crust is. The outer crust has good gluten bounce and flavor. We love the size of the large, but the medium is the perfect ratio of crust to toppings. Our go-tos are pigman (housemade bbq plus pancetta just kills it!) and sweet gino (simple mozz bazil and sweet marinara). Usually pick up is available 15-25 mins. Medium pizza is a little priced higher but worth it, the large is perfect for double cutting. We usually grab 2 mediums because we love the crust texture and topings ratio better The other crust styles are too thick (chicago chicken bacon was a bit dry), but still interested in trying them. I usually like deep dish pies, but the toppings ratio needs a lil work. The service is always so friendly and helpful and you can tell they love the pizza too.

Four stars because no one is perfect, but this review will probably convince you to check it out!

Tony did not disappoint and continue to build his pizza empire. We are fans and have been at Capo’s SF so we expected nothing less when we went here. Keep in mind, we went on the 5th day of opening this restaurant. We live in Castro Valley so San Leandro is a short distance. When we arrived there were a few people waiting for their order, I saw the QR code for the menu so I used it to order. It says 1 hour. so we waited in the car. An hour passed so I went back to get our order only to see a much bigger crowd waiting! I asked some people there what time they place their orders and they told me they were running about an hour late, I placed my order at 5:25 pm. The guy I spoke with said he placed his order online at 4:30ish and he was still waiting at 6:30ish. His name was called soon after. I went back to the car, asked my wife and kids if they are still okay to wait another hour, they said yes, so we waited more. I came back an hour later which was around 7:30ish and I still saw a lot of people waiting. I overheard some people who said that they have been waiting for over two hours. Here is the kicker, 99% of the people were still patiently waiting and still have positive vibes! There were some who cancelled, disappointed, but understood that this was first week of opening.

At nearly three hours of waiting I almost made the decision to cancel but then I was told that my order is in the oven already. At 3 hours, we finally got our order BUT they ran out of meatballs! It is what we were craving for! The manager handed me an extra box of pizza that someone may have cancelled. I will not turn down a Tony pizza!

We got home with our pizza, past three hours our dinner time and we dove in. The pizzas were fantastic!!! Good quality ingredients, not too oily, delicious crust and I liked the Buffalo wings! Will we come back? Yes!! Maybe not soon but only because we are planning to dig in some deep dish at North Beach for our next pizza run. I am sure they will work out whatever failed on...
