I heard good things about this restaurant. Today I went for the first time with my family and noticed the food, while overpriced, looks good. The music was very loud. I ask the server if they could reduce the volume of the music because we could not hear each other with those in my table. She replied that it was the manager's decision the volume of the music and she would not lower the volume of the music. I asked her if she could tell the manager that I would like to talk to her. The server, demonstrating fear to call the manager, told me that she would not like if the server would call her. I said, just show me who the manager is, and I can walk to where she is to talk to her, and she said, very politely, that she could not show me who the manager of the restaurant is.
I am afraid in this RESTaurant, they don't understand customer service and they really don't care if customers have requests or suggestions for their business.
My family ordered food, but I decided not to order any food. I stayed because I wanted to be with my family, but I decided not to support this business by not ordering food from them.
I noticed the corn of the tortillas was very good. Most of the food I saw it was just great - I noticed they have 3 ladies in the kitchen – I went to great them, all of them from Hispanic countries, therefore, the food is good (I hope they are paying them well because the place is not cheap), the management just doesn’t care about the experience customers have in their restaurant. Their lack of interest, concern or sympathy for a customer like me is evident. I am a musician myself and the music was not too bad but it was too loud.
I am sure they will never notice but I plan to never go back to their business, much less bring anyone to their business with me.
I hope the owner(s) will reconsider the customer service policies of their business. They imported cooks from probably Mexico or Central American countries to provide a real experience to their customers but in customer...
Read moreLONG REVIEW: As a San Diegan, I could quickly tell the California/Baja vibe the restaurant encompasses. Balcón offers authentic Californian and Baja style food. Great change to the TexMex often seen in the area. We will be back!
Overall pros and cons: -Pros: Food was tasty, fresh, & authentic to the Mexican food in Southern CA. Drinks were overall good. Service was excellent! Vibes and ambience were great! -Cons: Pricing was comparable to big cities, high for the area (took off a star for that). They ran out of churro donuts.
Our table tasted the following food options: Salsa sampler: 3 salsas offered. Pico, red, & green. All good and fresh (green was our favorite) Carne asada fries: tasty and similar to SD carne asada fries Flautas: 4 came in the order and were very good. Guac with the flautas was delicious and fresh California burrito: sooo good! The tortilla was delicious. Authentic to SD California burritos Carne asada quesadilla: handmade corn tortilla. Very good but on the smaller side Ensenada fish tacos: very flavorful with handmade tortillas. Definitely tasted like Baja style fish tacos
We had the following drinks: Ma’Coco Classico: very strong margarita! Spicy watermelon mint: very fresh with a little kick Oaxacan passion: very good Two to mango: pretty sweet El dude: delish! Continued order at our table Berry nice: “not berry good” according to the person who ordered it. It was extremely sweet Cool as a cucumber: good and refreshing Paloma: fan favorite among our table Hibiscus ranch water: refreshing Carajillo: delicious to end the night. Would’ve paired great with the churro donuts if they hadn’t ran out

It is very loud, and that makes it hard to hear what the server is saying. That may have contributed to the wrong food issue we had.
It took 45 minutes from the time we ordered to receive our food.
If you sit indoors, you are served a small glass of room temperature water that they are slow to refill. If you sit outdoors, you are served tall glasses of ice water. I don’t know how quickly they refill water outdoors.
We ordered the salsa sampler. The salsas were good, but the tortilla chips were not chips. They were quarters of corn tortillas that had been placed in frying oil for a bit . They were oily and chewy instead of crisp.
Two in our party ordered enchiladas verdes. The rice and beans were flavorless and cold, and the chicken was very dry.
One in our party ordered the surf and turf quesadilla. When it arrived, it looked more like a taco, so I asked if she was sure it was the quesadilla? She said yes, the quesadillas are open. Later, she said it was actually not the correct item and that they were making the quesadilla. She offered it to us packaged to go, but it was not ready by the time we left.
My taco al...
