Hokkaido Ramen and Sushi Bar — Restaurant in San Marcos

Let me preface this review with I normally LOVE this place. Absolutely adore it...However, tonight was absolutely and outrageously horrible. They had a new cook that was supposed to be trainin' on Ramen tonight. I understand that. But when the trainer themselves are doin' absolutely NOTHIN' to rectify a bad situation, in my opinion at least, that itself is unacceptable. My mother had to send her bowl back thanks to the insane amount of spice that was put in it when she requested mild. Again, we go there enough to be recognized by the hostess and be familiar with the menu, and she's had this specific bowl multiple times by now. When she received her remake, they STILL made it incorrectly by addin' in multiple things that she had requested be taken out. Then, MY bowl had too much oil in it, the broth tasted watery like my noodles were not properly drained, and it tasted insanely plain for a bowl that's usually literally BURSTIN' with flavor. I have only deviated from this particular bowl once, cause it's just that good imo. On top of all of the above that was wrong with my bowl, the pork that's normally melt in your mouth tender and flavorful was grossly tough and had a sour taste to it. Twice. I barely ate any of it. My server himself was fantastic, but the cooks need dore retrainin', cause if this is how the food is gonna start bein' then I highly recommend you save your money. I didn't even eat my bowl and my ma had to take her's home with her. Make sure to ask who's workin' the kitchen if you decide...

You have a loyal customer with me! Absolutely, enjoyed my first experience and meal!! Beautiful plates, delicious, reasonable pricing, and lovely atmosphere! Definitely enjoyed the fresh white ginger too and we quickly became known as the ginger table. It was fantastic that the chopsticks weren't the cheap wooden ones. This restaurant is one that you need to check out. It's fairly new and you can tell from the outside presentation of it's storefront that you'll be in for an experience to delight. The owners obviously made mindful decisions in the layout, decor, food presentation, chefs, and the all around quality. It's not overly decorated and gimmicky. There's no overly loud blasting music where folks can't hear conversation at their table. I'm ecstatic they have hot Jasmine tea (not just green tea). It's easily located just off ih35. At first I wasn't sure in how comfortable the booth tables were going to be, but I was pleasantly surprised & discovered it was just right! I highly recommend that if you're looking for the best experience and quality that you come check out this gem of a restaurant! There were many wonderful options to choose from that it was hard to decide what to order. We look forward to returning to have more Jasmine tea, ginger, and enjoy more of the foods they offer. Our waitress was pleasant, properly attentive, and willing to answer the many questions asked. OK, stop reading this and go get the experience of what eating out is...

My first time coming here was on New Year’s Day because they were one of the only places that were open a little bit later. I came across this place because I was going to the car wash next-door and I saw that this place was open and I hadn’t heard about it. So I decided to bring my friends for a nice New Year’s dinner. Let’s just say my friends and I were super impressed with the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the exceptional service from the staff. We liked it so much that I went again just yesterday and took another one of my friends who was visiting from out of town. I also found out that one of my friends that had joined me on the dinner on New Year’s Eve…Also came back that same week to try it again because it was that good!! I tried a variety of different things and was super impressed with each one of the menu items. Everything was exceptional, quality the flavor and taste, and down to the presentation was exceptional. I’ve never tasted better Ramen than this place and the prices are absolutely affordable the first time I went I ordered a mango lemonade, the Philadelphia roll, and a TantanMen Ramen (the third one down is on the menu $14.95). The second time I came I ordered the crab ragoons, milk tea, and the spicy beef Ramen. Everything was so good and I’m surprised how a lot of people don’t know about this yet, but I highly recommend coming here at least once, and I promise you you won’t want to go anywhere...
