Taste Of China Super Buffet — Restaurant in San Marcos

For some reason never had the inkling to stop in. Poor word of mouth had be second guessing. Maybe something has changed since then. Taste of China Super Buffet delivers the traditional chinese buffett dishes. 1st walked in greeted by a friendly employee. I kindly asked to take a look at the buffett before I dined in seeing as it was my 1st time dining in. Came in just in time for the dinner change over. A mere $9.70 opted for the water have to watch the calories lol. Pepper Steak was great a nice thin sliced cut of beef sautéed to perfection mixes with the soy sauce your Chinese food needs. The star attraction on todays buffett wasnt the pricey crab legs it was the lesser Chicken Wings. A mixed style buffalo hot with a savory chinese mixture. Pluckers in town may have some competition on their wings. Not so good were the lo mein noodles. Just didnt do it for me the coloring was off maybe a more dark brown is what I prefer. Tomato Shrimp was great. The peas and carrots sopped up in a pot pie style sauce mixed with the shrimp is something to try. Pork spare ribs may have been sitting out for some time but they still hit pretty good. General Tso chicken needed more time in the fryer. If you crisp the chicken a little bit more then you would have a hit. Crab Ragoons very huge enjoyed them very much. The egg rolls again needed more time in the fryer for my liking. Fried rice is doing its thing. Seasoned green beans I could dig. Mixed vegggies maybe a citrus burst to finish them off ask for a lemon. Service was good I wanted to by my waiter some shoes his looked worn down maybe hes got them to where they need to be so he doesnt have to suffer being on his feet all day....

So, I basically only wound up here because a family member needed something ASAP, and my internet connection was dead so I couldn't see what other restaurants were further up the highway or how bad traffic was heading north on the interstate.

It wasn't until I was in the parking lot that the data came back and I saw the low rating. But, I needed food right then so we took a chance. And you know what? It was pretty much average. $31 for two, with drinks was a little steep for the so-so quality.

Some of the food on the stream tables looked pretty suspect, but some items like the jalapeño chicken and barbecue chicken were pretty good. The breaded and fried chicken dishes looked and tasted the worst. The video featured the kinds of shrimp dishes and crawfish, too.

Sweet tea was surprisingly good! Service wasn't bad, our drinks were never allowed to go empty and plates were collected fairly regularly when we were finished.

Desserts got a thumbs up, with nice Jello and a taste spice cake thing being the favorites.

Overall, very middle-of-the-road, more for quantity over quality. Now that I know just how much more is available elsewhere in town, I won't be back, but I suppose if you choose carefully, you won't come...

Unclean establishment with bugs in food and table! We arrived and were sat down. I did see a small bug on the table that first thought was a nats the waiter came and cleaned the table off. I grabbed my plate last as I was on a work call. I served myself a plate and a soup. I took a bite into the sesame chicken and it tasted foul, not like your usual sesame chicken. I told my family the food tasted weird, even the noodles and that I was only going to eat the soup. As I got the first spoonful of soup I look closely because something black was in there and I find a small dead bug in it. Mind you my husband and kids had already started eating before me we were in there total of maybe 15 minutes. As we are getting up to go ask for refund we see more of these small bugs start crawling on the table. I immediately show the bug I found in the soup to manager and tell him about bugs on table and ask for my money back. They had the audacity to not refund me all of the plates because my husband had already started eating nor did they refund me the drink he had not yet drank. The city inspector should really take a look at that restaurant and it's unclean practices....
