Amruthu Villas has quickly become one of my go-to spots whenever I’m craving authentic South Indian food, and in particular, their Masala Dosa. Having tried South Indian cuisine at several places across the Bay Area, I can say with confidence that this is easily one of the best dosas in the East Bay. The dosa is perfectly crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and filled with a flavorful potato masala that strikes just the right balance of spice and comfort. The accompanying chutneys and sambar are fresh, aromatic, and complement the dosa beautifully.
Beyond the food itself, what makes Amruthu Villas stand out is the overall experience. The service here is consistently warm and friendly, with staff who make you feel welcome from the moment you step in. They are attentive without being overbearing, which adds to the comfort of dining here.
For those familiar with Bay Area dining, you know how quickly meals can become expensive. That’s why I really appreciate that Amruthu Villas keeps their prices reasonable without compromising on quality or portion sizes. It’s refreshing to find a place that serves authentic food at a fair price, making it not just a spot for occasional dining, but one you can return to again and again without hesitation.
The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, making it a great place to bring family, friends, or even to enjoy a quick solo meal. It doesn’t try to be flashy or over the top—it simply delivers on what it promises: delicious, authentic South Indian food done right.
If you’re in the East Bay and want to experience the true taste of South India, I highly recommend giving Amruthu Villas a try. You won’t be disappointed—especially if you order the...
Read moreThe food, ambience, and service seem to be highly overrated. I was not able to post the review with a zero star.
Upon entry, my friend immediately remarked that the place had an unpleasant smell -- not a great first impression. We were all hungry and decided to eat there.
I ordered the thali. Since I don't eat cauliflower, I asked for an alternative sabji. They didn't have one, so I requested an extra poori instead. They agreed.
The meal came with nimbu pani -- nothing special. The onion pakoras were cold and soggy. When I brought this up with the lady at the counter, she said that's how they serve it and reheating would make them oily. After I strongly pointed out that this is not the kind of food I expected for the price I paid, she eventually said she'd give me something else. Even then, it took two reminders before I got a tiny urad dal vada -- with no apology.
The rasam was terrible, the rice undercooked, pooris made with maida (white flour), and the pachadi was completely unappetizing. The only saving grace was the yam fry, which was actually tasty.
Overall, a total waste of money. I'm definitely not going back.
They need to have staff who are attentive to customers and treat the customers...
Read moreThis was my first time and I was really looking forward to their food. Their ambience is cozy, good for 30 to 40 people, we felt a bit suffocated maybe because of the heatwave or poor air conditioning. Their service is amicable and it’s a self order kind of setup. We got bisbela bath, poori, mysore bonda, benne Kara dosa, ghee podi onion masala dosa, sandwich and filter coffee. I must say the food here is amazing. Proper Indian hotel food. I loved their flavors and their chutneys were🤌. The bisbela bath was piping hot, flavorful and moorish. we got extra ghee to amplify the flavor. They serve it with crisps which was a good combo. The mysore bonda was fluffy and soft and the poori was perfectly bloated with potatoes that were served exactly as in India. The benne dosa was crispy and went well with the potatoes. The ghee podi onion masala dosa was crispy and the podi gave a perfect heat to the potatoes. The ghee flavor elacatedvtge experience. The filter coffee was good and I felt it was a bit lite to my likings. Overall I have to say one of the recent best South Indian places I’ve been to. It’s likely because of their flavors and fresh ingredients in their food. A must try and I’ll definitely bring in more...
