Absolutely Delicious! A True Taste of Maharashtra at Swaraj India – San Ramon!
We had the most flavorful and heartwarming experience at Swaraj India in San Ramon, and I can confidently say, this is a hidden gem for anyone craving authentic Maharashtrian cuisine! From the very first bite to the last sip, everything was a burst of flavor, culture, and nostalgia.
We tried a feast of iconic dishes, each one a masterpiece in its own right:
Misal Pav: Spicy, tangy, and topped with crunchy farsan — just like you’d get in Pune streets. Kothimbir Vadi: Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft inside, and full of coriander-packed flavor. Vada Pav: Bold, garlicky chutney and a piping hot batata vada — pure Mumbai magic in a bun! Paneer Chilli: Indo-Chinese fusion at its finest — perfectly spiced and super addictive. Saoji Chicken: Rich, bold, and fiery — a true treat for spice lovers! Malvani Jhinga: Succulent prawns in a coastal curry Kombdi Vade & Bhakri: Traditional, comforting, and soul-satisfying, just like a home-cooked festive meal. And the drinks, oh wow, what a refreshing touch! Piyush: Creamy, sweet, and packed with saffron-cardamom and pistachios flavors — dessert in a glass! Masala Taak: Cool, spiced buttermilk — the perfect digestive after a spicy meal. Lonavala Lemon Soda: Fizzy, tangy, and totally nostalgic — a fun twist that balanced the spices beautifully.
The ambiance is cozy, service is warm and friendly, and the food… truly speaks for itself. You can feel the passion and authenticity in every dish. This isn’t just a meal it’s a full-on Maharashtrian culinary journey.
We left with full hearts, happy stomachs, and a plan to come back very soon. If you’re in the Bay Area and haven’t been to Swaraj India, you’re missing out on something truly special! Mohan & the owner - you guys are the best! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – 10/10 experience. Highly...
Read moreStepping into Swaraj, you're immediately enveloped by a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels like home, especially if you have a soft spot for authentic Marathi cuisine. We were greeted by Mohan, who is the epitome of hospitality. With his welcoming smile and attentive service, Mohan made sure our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.
Now, let’s talk about the food—each dish transported me straight back to the vibrant streets of Maharashtra.
Vada Pav: Freshly fried to order, this classic street food staple was a bite of nostalgia, reminiscent of Pune's bustling food stalls. Tambda/Pandra Rassa: These spicy broths are a must-try. Rich, flavorful, and deeply comforting—each sip warms you from the inside out. Souji Mutton: This dish was a revelation. The robust combination of black pepper and onions elevated it to something truly special. Easily the standout of the meal. Jinga Malvani: The prawns were cooked to perfection—succulent and tender. The sauce was rich and flavorful, evoking the essence of Goa with every bite. Chicken Sukka: This dish took tava chicken to the next level with its deep, savory flavors. A definite win. Bhakri: We tried both the bajri and rice bhakri, and each brought something unique to the table—earthy and wholesome, perfectly complementing the mains. Moong Daal Halwa: This was the crown jewel of the meal. Perfectly roasted and delicately sweetened, this halwa was a sublime end to our culinary journey. It's one of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time.
Coming from Portland, Oregon, this experience was nothing short of heaven. Swaraj is not just a meal; it’s a journey back to the roots of Marathi cuisine, served with warmth and authenticity. If you're seeking a true taste of Maharashtra,...
Read moreThis place was on my list for long time but got chance to visit it today. It's very rare to find authentic maharashtrian cuisine in bay area. The ambience was very good. After entering into restaurant first Marathi impression was of, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's photo! महाराजांना मानाचा मुजरा 🙏. We got greeted by servers n we settled down on our table. To start with we ordered, Kothimbir wadi ( Coriander fritters) & Misal Pav. For main course we ordered, zunka & chapati & Solkadhi as drink. We got our food within 5mins on our table. It was hot and very delicious. Kothimbir wadi was very lip-smacking. A perfect blend of Coriander, chickpea flour & spices and they garnished it with fresh coconut & some cilantro. Misal Pav: They served Misal as dry mixture (blend of Farsan & top with Matkichi Usal) in a bowl, Tarri in separate bowl. You mix both according to your taste. They both were very tasty & not too spicy. Perfect level of spices & aroma was very inviting (I focused on eating rather than taking photos). Pav was carrying perfect amount of butter & enough hot to complement Misal. Solkadhi: Wow! 😋 I never had this perfect taste of Solkadhi overall USA. This Solkadhi made me nostalgic 😢 I would highly recommend it. Zunka: I never had zunka with peanuts in it but this different taste was amazing. Zunka wasn't too dry nor to soggy. Cooked to perfection 👏 All credit goes to Chef 👨🍳 🙌 👏 Our server - Mohan - was very good. He advised us to go with 1 round of chapati & if needed, order 2nd round of it. Very helpful & he made sure we are getting fresh food n we are comfortable there. Kudos to you Mohan! 👏
Overall, experience was enjoyable and food was perfect! Definitely coming back to taste all other dishes on your menu!
Thank you...
