This is a restaurant that we have. gone to several times over the past 10 years and was one of our favorites but we went twice in the past month and had bad experiences. We assumed the first was just a fluke so we wanted to try again . The first time it was quite slow and they appeared to be staff challenged ,who isn't ? Aside from being slow we did not get bread while waiting so we did end up asking and we did get bread dropped off rather quickly with no butter. I don't use it but my husband does so it took a bit to get the waitresses attention to get butter and she seemed surprised that we wanted any but we got it . Another observation was that they no longer served the bread with the olive oil for dipping which was always nice . The food took about a half hour to get and the waitress never stopped by to say sorry it was a bad night and that our food will be coming. The food was ok but not quite what we recall. We got the haddock and scallops . It took a while to get the check. It seemed like our waitress was swapped to the room on the other end . We figured just a bad night since we saw the bus boy was trying to help out with bringing water and bread so we tried again this past Saturday night. Sadly it was worse . There looked like there was more staff but it was the same start ,no bread so we did ask and it took a little while to get the bread but we got it. It took about a half hour to get out cup of lobster bisque which was kind of crazy as I know it is already made and just has to be scooped into a cup. The couple next to us and the family across from us with 2 kids are in the same boat and waiting quite a while . The couple asked if we had been there before and we told them we had loved this place but were kind of surprised that twice in a short period of time it was not a good experience. We finally got our meal after one hour . I think the most annoying part was that our waitress never came over to say it was a bad night and apologize for the long wait . The waitress at the next table did at least do that once which is at least a nice gesture. My husband got the fried scallops and haddock and it was quite salty . I noticed that was a comment in a couple other reviews . If we were not already so hungry and waited so long we may have asked for something else but my husband just started cutting some of the breading off which helped . My scallop salad was ok but could have had an extra scallop or two and also could have been a little more grilled. We still left a 15 % tip but we usually leave 20 or more . I notice that the responses from the owner are somewhat defensive and I think that's unfortunate . Another one of our favorite restaurants offered us a 25 dollar gift certificate when we got a steak tip salad that was too tough to even chew for the first time ever..They knew we never complain and just wanted to offer something to let us know how much they value our business. That was above and beyond but it's nice when managers do something to try to make sure customers will want to come back ,even just 15% off your bill or something. That is a better way to ensure your regular customers come back. I hope we come try again in the future but 2 times in a row is enough for a while so it will be a long time . I do want to say that the older waitress with the black hair is always great with the customers and does a wonderful job . If we at least had her it would not have been so awful so I hope she is very appreciated there . Something is wrong when the people at the next table were looking up reviews just like we were to see if any others were having similar experiences. I hope things get better there . It was always a great place and obviously we aren't the only ones noticing...
Read moreI went to Captain Scott's at 5:00 on 5/13. First the good, I was greeted by a hostess that was polite and friendly. I sat at the bar, which seats I think somewhere around 10-16. There were 3 other people at the bar when I arrived. After sitting and waiting for a few minutes I ordered a beer and when asked if I wanted a glass I asked if it was cold. Don't know why I ask, it always is. Well, I was told "sorry, I don't have any cold ones right now". But why should the glass be cold, the beer certainly wasn't. The person that did serve me the beer, according to his conversation with a couple across the bar, had finished his shift and was already supposed to have left, so I appreciate that he served me. As for the actual bartender, I can only describe it as he was "actively ignoring" me. He never asked if I wanted to see a menu, and when I tried to get his attention he always looked elsewhere. At one point when I was looking right at him to try and get his attention he looked up, saw me looking, and immediately looked down again. I have no idea why he didn't want to serve me, but it had to be something about my looks as there was no conversation. My only regret is that after a half hour of nursing a lukewarm beer I actually left a tip (after looking up the price on the menu on my own). Maybe I would have gotten their attention if I left without paying for the beer? Probably not, they would have actually had to...
Read moreI grew up in the Boston area, and my family often camped on the Cape during the summers. This the type of place we would go to for inexpensive dinners out to give my mom a break from cooking. It’s no frills, but the people are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the food is a solid value for the price. My partner has celiac, and even though they only have a few items listed as gluten free on the menu, their hostess went out of her way to try to answer his questions about whether other items on the menu could be ordered gluten-free. The service in general was outstanding. I don’t need to eat gluten free, and I highly recommend their lobster roll special, which comes with fries and a cup of lobster bisque. That lobster rolls was loaded with lobster, and very little mayo, as it should be! The roll was grilled perfectly. What a treat and for an affordable price. We also got beet salads…if you love beets(as I do) it’s great…a huge mound of sliced pickled beets on a bed of greens, and that’s it, for about half the price of a more elaborate beet salad in other places. The authentic Greek salad was also fantastic. Definitely stop by if you are looking for a solid, inexpensive seafood meal in Sandwich. ...
