Subject: Honest Review of My Visit to Big B’s Fish Joint – Roswell, GA
Dear Big B’s Management Team,
I wanted to take a moment to share some feedback from my recent visit to your Roswell location.
First, I’d like to start by complimenting your staff and environment. The atmosphere was very pleasant, we were seated immediately, and the wait staff was attentive, friendly, and welcoming. The noise level was minimal, which allowed for easy conversation, and the appetizers were a highlight—particularly the Bang Bang Shrimp, which was fresh and flavorful, and the gumbo, which I would honestly rank as world-class.
However, the experience unfortunately declined when it came to the main course. I ordered the Grouper Fillet entrée ($36), and I’ve attached a photo for reference. The fish was noticeably overcooked and dry, and as someone who grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida, I’m very familiar with the taste and texture of fresh grouper. This did not resemble grouper in flavor, texture, or appearance.
When I politely raised this concern to the waitress, she brought it to the kitchen staff who refused to acknowledge the mistake. To further investigate, I used an AI-powered image recognition tool to analyze the fish and, consistent with my palate, the analysis confirmed the fish was not grouper but a different white fish altogether.
Additional feedback:
Hush puppies were bland and lacked seasoning
Brussels sprouts were overcooked and mushy
Coleslaw was excellent and refreshing
Shrimp dishes were consistent in quality and taste
After I brought up the issue with the entrée, I sensed a shift in tone and felt as though we were being rushed out, which only added to the disappointment.
While I truly appreciated the atmosphere and the start of the meal, the lack of authenticity in the entrée, portion sizes relative to pricing, and the refusal to acknowledge a valid concern made the overall experience unsatisfactory. I’m giving the experience 2.5 stars and, unfortunately, I do not see myself returning.
I hope this feedback is taken constructively—your restaurant has potential, and I’d love to see improvements made that match the promise of your atmosphere and...
Read moreMy review is based on one item only, the Shrimp + Andouille Sausage Gumbo. This is my first time to eat at Big B's Fish Joint so I'm a little cautious especially if the menu is a little pricey. I settled on the gumbo because it's a rainy and cold day and I thought it would be nice and warm and comforting. I must say I was really disappointed because I was expecting a New Orleans style gumbo primarily because the title says andouille sausage which is typically an ingredient in New Orleans style seafood gumbo. What I got was the container of spicy light brown gravy with the andouille sausage and shrimp cut into tiny little pieces over a generous portion of rice. First let me say any gumbo should start with a roux and a roux is always a rich dark brown. Cutting the pieces of sausage and shrimp into tiny pieces it's just insulting to someone who knows what a good shrimp gumbo and dually sausage should look like. It's obviously skimping on cost. The spices that were used weren't bad but could have been better. They would have had a faithful customer who returned frequently if this gumbo had been good. My recommendation to management find someone who knows how to make a roux or you can buy it pre-made. Use whole shrimp and generous slices of the sausage to make this a dish that you could charge more than $5.95. It is the lowest price item on your menu and now I know why. All I can say is, "brother don't bastardize gumbo man." To be fair I will try your catfish because that's one of my next favorite dishes and I really hope that it spread it in yellow cornmeal instead of some...
Read moreI was looking for a place to have a quick brunch or lunch before my next appointment on a late Wednesday afternoon. I had decided between Snooze or Big B since I knew they were both located not too far from next appointment, I went with Big B since it would be my first time dining there and I also heard pretty positive things. Well I was greeted right way and was told I could select any open seat on the patio since that was my preference. There was only a few people inside and out so I hoped it would be a pretty quick experience since I ran into a little traffic. While I was waiting for my server I quickly looked over the menu and made a decision. When he brought my water I placed my order.
I love fish dip so had to try their smoked trout spread $9.95, it did take longer than expected to come out, especially since it was my starter. The dip was okay, I loved the smokiness flavor of the trout but wasn’t a fan of the crispy/hard bread it was served with. I only ate half of the serving so I had room for my sandwich. I ordered the crispy cod sandwich $11.95. I thought the serving of crispy fried Alaskan cod was perfect, it was served on a soft H&F brioche bun with slaw and house tartar sauce. The fries were tasty and seasoned well and I used the tartar as a dipping sauce for the fries. J
Overall I enjoyed my meal, the service was good, and the restaurant was clean with lots of seating inside and out. I would not recommend coming here if you’re short on time. I’m looking forward to vising again to experience their happy...
