FORGET DAGWOODS @ SPALDING! Been going there for 10+ years, recent change in management/investors FOR THE WORSE. USE to be a place with good food no matter what you ordered, a long term friendly staff, attentive and accommodating and focused on serving their clientele. Never a rush to get you out the dang door minutes before or after closing. Totally different now! Saturday night I arrived @ 9:00PM, the place was all but empty, NEVER seen that before. Service was prompt but server never returned to check on me and he was engaged in a loud conversation (non-English) with a peer the entire time. I had to signal for service several times to get someone to reluctantly return for another drink. Then in the middle of my meal, still open, at 9:30 the help started vacuuming the floor! I mean right up to my table. Old hours before the change in management was 11PM. New closing time as I found out is now 10PM...so 30 minutes before closing they are vacuuming the floors, right up to my table. At 9:50PM I get a "we are closing in 10 minutes" warning and I am not quite 1/2 way through my meal though I am feeling rushed because of the vacuuming. I ate quickly, had to gulp down my beverage and promptly was greeted w/the check. Server stood their waiting for me to produce my credit card. It was clear he wanted me to pay and leave. Brought the check right back, it's now 9:59. At 10:04 PM less than 1 minute after finishing my beverage the 'manager' cranks up the vacuum and starts to vacuum right at my feet, I mean laterally at my feet. It was clear they wanted me to leave. So I stood up and told the manager as he is literally vacuuming around my feet: "I get the message".
Gone are the servers that have been there for years and years, gone is the easy going atmosphere, gone is the Southern hospitality and client focused spirit of Dagwoods. This was my "Cheers". The new Indian/Pakistan crew is in the house now and they don't have a clue. If tonight's 1 party turn out, on a Saturday night at 9pm when they were ALWAYS packed is a sign, they are all but done. ...
Read moreThis review will be based solely on my only experience with Dagwood's. The pizza was fine. Nothing special but very greasy. From the outside the place looks like it's closed and it's not very well marked. There were 2 tables of patrons and 2 servers. The absolute worst part was the service. I came in to pick up an order. My order was placed AND paid for a week in advance for a pickup time off 11:30am today (1/30/2019). I walked through the door and up to the pickup counter at 11:30 and showed them my receipt. The gentleman told me "it'll be a few minutes". I told him no problem and that I'd be waiting. 20 minutes later another gentleman asked about my order. I showed him the receipt that was still sitting on the counter. He said nothing and walked away. The first person came back and apologized saying it would be 15 minutes. At this point I had already been waiting over 20 minutes. At 12:15pm, my pizzas were handed to me. I then asked about the garlic bread that was also on my order. They then worked on that. I walked out with everything at 12:30pm-- one hour after the scheduled pickup time. During this time, 5 pickup orders came and left-- none of which were paid for ahead of time. In my opinion, this is backwards. If you've already received money, that order should be ready to go. I won't be back to Dagwood's as it was only a disappointment to me. I did also witness one of the kitchen staff taste a patrons soup twice with the same soon. Pretty deplorable. I'm sure this place has dedicated patrons who don't know any better. If that's all they need to stay...
Read moreIt kills me to write this review bc our family has loved Dagwood's for years. We ordered two pizzas and a salad last Saturday night to be delivered. Date night - and getting pizza for kids+ babysitter. Called 90 mins before we had to leave for our night's plans, and were told it would be an hour wait. No problem. Planned for that. At the 80 min mark, we still had not received the pizzas. So, I called to find out what happened, since they charged us + the 20% tip I suggested. Turns out they never put the order into the system (which should automatically happen when you charge someone, so not sure I buy it). Steve the manager was great, but getting to him - through the rude employee who answered the phone and had absolutely no urgency, interrupting me constantly, was far too difficult. Solution: our babysitter would pick up the pizza (which of course I didn't say she was the sitter bc who wants to telegraph that you'll be out and your house will be vulnerable?). When the babysitter arrived, the cashier told her there was no record of the order. Babysitter called me, and I asked to speak to the cashier. Suddenly, this person remembered our order and told babysitter "yeah, she's the lady who yelled at me". Ummmm. No, honey, I asked you to stop interrupting me and to please get the manager. So - miserable experience + slandered. Plenty of great pizza places these days to choose instead. I realize labor is tight, much less courteous help. But, this is not...
