GOHAN Market is my favorite Japanese Grocery Market in metro Atlanta! So thankful GOHAN Market opened, giving us an excellent new (and much needed) option to stock up on all the favorite Japanese groceries and snacks! This small yet spacious market is so clean, the groceries are well stocked, plenty of promo sales and featured items, and wide selection of everyday and hard-to-find items! When it comes to snacks, both sweets and non-sweets (I call “beer snacks” like NORI- wrapped ARARE🍘🍥, dried cuttlefish, SURUME) the choices are so many! 🍘🍥🍢🍡🍬🍫🍮 Good Japanese good brands you’ll recognize. If you’re new to Japanese foods, you’ll find top brands throughout the store, where quality and freshness prevail. My two favorite things about GOHAN Market: the service is excellent! All the staff are friendly, exceptionally helpful, and really show each customer that they care and appreciate their business. This customer service is hard to find now, but it makes the shopping experience here truly enjoyable. The 2nd thing that keeps me coming back regularly is the ready to eat snacks and meals, of which my favorite are the several types of ONIGIRI, 🍙 which are triangle-shaped rice, wrapped in seaweed with different stuffing inside, like salmon, KATSUO, UMEBOSHI … they make a great snack or grab two or three and a cold green tea for a quick meal. I also love the ANPAN and other bakery treats, the OMANJU in the refrigerated case in the back, and the mini packaged sushi that is made daily as well as ready to eat BENTO 🍱 meals. The FUTOMAKI + INARI combination are excellent! I’ve ordered CHIRASHI sushi which they sometimes have there (or you can call the day before to request it from the people that make the sushi for Gohan market). It is excellent and better than many restaurants which charge way more. It’s also a treat to order any of the variety of noodles or curry rice that is made and served in the back. There are tables so you can eat in the back of the market. I’ve tried a couple of the noodles dishes and 🍜they were delicious! Being half Japanese, we go through rice 🍚like crazy and GOHAN is the place to buy large bags of rice🍚🍚🍚 (yes, you can get the small ones as well), there are so many excellent choices of rice from Japan. Out of curiosity I also bought a bag of six grain rice from Japan. That includes black rice, red rice, two types of barley, brown rice, and discovered an amazing and incredibly healthy stable to alternate meals with the white rice. The six-grain rice was out of this world and goes with so many dishes both Japanese and non-Japanese. I highly recommend this product for flavor, texture and for your health. Don’t forget to check out the non-food items in the back, such as personal care, ceramic dishes, and stationery items including cute stickers. Children will enjoy the store as well with play machines up front. The market is tucked into a strip mall off of Holcomb Bridge Road so parking is free and ample. So thankful for this great and fun to shop at a Japanese GOHAN...
Read moreThis place had been on our visit list ever since we learned about it, especially since it was close to where we lived. It was such a fun experience! The store had a restaurant in the back, which made it a fun experience to order and wait for food while I shopped around the grocery area. They had many goods, from food and candies to Japanese skincare, and they even sold anime merchandise! I’m unsure if they are official or unofficial, but the goodies were still very cute and I almost bought them! Definitely will if I get to go next time. As for food, I tried the Tonkotsu White ramen and Sukiyaki curry and Tonkatsu curry. All the food was delicious and worth the price! The staff were very friendly and helped us throughout our entire experience there, from the food to checkout. I ended up buying Japanese candy that I used to eat as a child, which made me happy as it was hard to find and expensive online. However, in store, it was a decent price for how long it has been since I’ve seen it sold in a market! The food was filling and felt like authentic Japanese food, while the grocery section made us feel like we were in a Japanese convenience store. There was candy that we were familiar with but also unfamiliar candy that we...
Read moreGohan Market is a gem in the suburbs! It's a great place to stock up on frozen items, Ito en tea, and Japanese curry blocks but the highlight is the prepared foods section.
Regular offerings include onigiri, egg salad & chicken katsu sandos, and rice bowls. On certain days, you can also find the ever so aesthetic fruit sando and sushi. Sushiro sometimes does a pop-up for assorted fresh sushi! I picked up a lunch tray assortment of 10 different nigiri for less than $20. The Sushiro sushi chef was even there to say hi.
The prepared food fridge often has 50% off sandos and onigiri that did not sell the previous day. The rice is notably harder, so it needs to warm to room temp before consumption. Great option if you're picking up food to eat later.
Staff are friendly, and one day I will muster the courage to practice the few Japanese words that I know.
Pros: prepared foods (onigiri, sukiyaki beef bowl, hot noodles, sandos), friendly staff Cons: restroom...
