Schooly's Bar & Billiards — Restaurant in Sanford

DISCLAIMER: First and only experience at this bar, But that would be the case even if this wasn’t a one—night stop on my way to SC…. 🤷‍♂️ Next time I’m in the area I’ll go elsewhere.

THE DJ IS AWESOME! If you were born in the late 80’s or early 90’s your likely know the majority of songs. I mostly listen to country nowadays, but I even was able to sing along with 95% of the songs. Haha

COVER: As of 14 DEC 24, there is a $5 charge to even get in the bar.

CASH ONLY: On top of a cover charge they are cash only… Considering 50 patrons on a Saturday, cash only policy, they could have a much heavier pour at the bar.

VALUE: I spent $50-$55 (tip included). I would’ve tipped less, but I overtip since my mom was a waitress when I was young and often they’re going based on the owners directive with super light pours. I’m ALL for capitalism! 🇺🇸 But I spent $15 per “double” Crown Royal Apple on the rocks! 🤯🤯🤯 I wouldn’t complain, but they were more like singles than doubles. And I wasn’t drunk or even giving the impression I was drunk to not notice they weren’t actually doubles. 😆

Good vibe. Nice people. Pretty sure 2 guys weee doing drugs in the bathroom stall while I was urinating, but I’ve experienced that at very high-class bars (even more actually).

OVERALL: You don’t have many options of bars around 11:00 PM or later in this area… Enjoy the music, but know you’re not getting ANY “outstanding” service from the bartender and certainly NOT going to get your money worth in alcohol. 🤪 🤷‍♂️ It all depends what you’re intending to do for the night.

Enjoy music, pass through for one random night… I say go for it! Pre-game if you don’t like overpriced drinks, on top of an unjustified cover charge.

You could maybe “get lucky” with a random guy or girl, but definitely wrap it. Somewhat attractive people… but definitely a ‘local bar’ where they’ve likely been through most the bar members of the opposite sex. 🤣

There were three people at the bar and two people at the tables. 10 pm Saturday night. They charged a 5$ cover charge. The tables were honestly just really, really sad. Unfortunately, the cloth on the tables was honestly some of the worst I've ever seen in any pool room, ever. It was quite literally lifting off table between my fingers. There were stains on every table. Pitting, burn holes with actual black edges from like the cherry of a cigarette. The rails were actually responsive but literally completely full of raised fibers and pilling. The balls they gave me were quite literally garbage. The worst set of billiards balls I have ever seen by far. Gouges so bad they were half the size of my fingernail. The cue ball had a dime sized depression. If they have ever even been cleaned I would honestly be shocked. It was honestly a shame and just depressing to see those beautiful AMF tables in this condition. A simple recloth and some cheap Amazon balls would be 1000% better than the state they have let these tables get to. They are absolutely unplayable for anyone who appreciates pool. It's free to play pool once you have paid the cover and ordered a drink. This is bad...they should be charging for table time... I am assuming its hard to maintain tables when you aren't charging for table time...most players are happy to pay because we understand that table maintenance is expensive. The bartender was very nice. The hostess was very nice. The dj...was playing filthy rap music where every other word was disgusting filth and it was at least three times louder than it needed to be for the five of us that were in there...I stayed for long enough to finish my $5.50 beer and left. I hate to leave negative reviews but honestly if you like to shoot pool...just don't. It's absolutely not...

My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday night around 8:30. We were told we had to get a membership if we wanted to come inside. Totally fine except they acted like it was such a chore to get you the membership they say you need. We paid our fee and sat down. Not a single other person showed up until 10:00 which is when we had enough. Besides that the bartender was rude and not knowledgeable on drinks that aren’t jack and coke or beer. All the employees except one were plastered (I’m talking your drunk Uncle on New Years Eve) They made you feel like you were intruding on them in their living room watching their Discovery Channel..
