Wendy's — Restaurant in Sanford

Easily the worst fast food restaurant I've been to in the area. I've been here about 6 times; it's the only fast food place nearby with an outlet that I can plug into and work for a couple hours while I wait for a friend to be done with his class. Here's a typical morning.

I show up and enter the store, and there's someone near the front counter. As I approach the person at the front counter walks away. I stand by the register for maybe 5 minutes while employees ignore me. Some are working the drive through; some are preparing food. Some are doing nothing. Nobody acknowledges me. An employee arrives with a cake and asks to be clocked in. She stands at the register in front of me but doesn't even look at me. The manager comes and sets her up. He doesn't look at me either. After she's logged into her register, she walks away and doesn't take my order. Finally the person running the drive through comes and takes my order. Average wait time from the time I get to the counter and getting my order taken is between 5-10 minutes. And the dining room is usually empty - most of their business seems to come from the drive through.

You need a pass code to enter the bathroom - why? The main sink in the men's room doesn't work. In three weeks it hasn't been fixed. The soda machine is really nice with lots of options, but the nozzle is always gunked up, so I have to clean it.

I'm tempted to give the place two stars because of the many access to outlets and reliable wifi. The food has always been decent. But the service is so deplorable that I'm done with this place. I'm not...

Everything hot and juicy just like they said.

Except the fries were crisp, not juicy. Just like they're supposed to be. I think this Wendy's might be the best one we've ever eaten at because it had the freshest beef and it was not oversalted and it was really fresh crisp garden ingredients on the burgers and they didn't overdo the ketchup and the mayo and all the other things that can go wrong, just didn't go wrong.

Very hard to find fast food outlets that follow all the rules and give you a perfect product that is hot and fresh, including fresh up fries right out of the fryer, so hot you can't touch them. And it's really hard to beat a Wendy's burger for taste and quality when it is prepared right.

This Wendy's really does it right. And it was late at night when we came so we didn't actually expect much, just a decent hot burger, but we got a surprise when it turned out to me just about the best Wendy's burgers we'd ever had.

I recommendation is to always add the pretzel bun to whatever you're getting if you're getting one of the expensive burgers, like the Dave's. It is an extra dollar for that pretzel bun but it really holds together better with all the ingredients on it and sort of wraps around the edges of the burger so that everything is kept within the confines of the button pretty well.

There’s something extra terrible about watching the person ahead of you order using the AI at the drive through at 10:10am, only to pull up and hear over the box “nah, turn her off.” Then sit there for 5-10 minutes, asking for service, and be ignored until their breakfast services end.

Even better is hearing them say not to take my order and just leave me sitting with empty air, a car locking me in front AND behind me so I can’t even leave. Considering the normal good breakfast services I’ve had, this staff is a whole ass embarrassment and I can only begin to imagine how they treat people during a rush.

Save yourself the trouble and go literally anywhere else. Hell, Walmarts there, just buy a Lunchable, you’ll have better service than these people.

Update 3 months later: My partner really wanted breakfast and I enjoy a breakfast baconator. In a moment of uncaffeienated weakness, I agreed.

After ordering at their AI box this time, a Baconator combo, honey chicken combo, and a sausage biscuit. Simple order right? I was asked to park at their mobile pick-up to wait for my order after paying.

About 20 minutes later I get my bags, an extra order of fries, but 3 sandwiches, all looked great! Until I get home with 2 chicken biscuits and sausage biscuit. I’m so happy I paid them more for less. But they know the cost of gas will keep anyone from pushing for a refund.
