Who doesn't love fried chicken? Gus's is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
I ordered the 2 piece combo with potato salad & beans. The chicken was perfectly cooked. Batter was light, yet sturdy and had a very pronounced crunch, without being oily.
Chicken was perfectly juicy and tender. The recipe is a secret but from the texture of the meat, I'm pretty certain they brine the chicken. You can tell from the penetration of the salt.
I love spicy so I doused my first piece in Louisiana hot sauce but it overpowered the batter. I opted to eat the rest of my meal sans hot sauce to really take in the flavor of the batter.
Potato salad was a hit! I enjoyed how tangy it was; kind of reminiscent of deviled eggs. I would definitely get this again.
BBQ beans were just alright.
The menu was not over priced. My 2 piece + 2 sides came out at $10 and a beer was $6.
Service was phenomenal. I forget the server's name but he was a great guy! My gf spilled her water so he brought out a new one with a lid on it, and I appreciated the humor.
For southern style fried chicken, Gus's is pretty up there compared to other restaurants of the same style within the area. I'm not going to compare it to Korean fried chicken because it's different to me. But compared to other southern style fried chicken, Gus's tops them by...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been to Gusās Fried Chicken about 5ā6 times now, and it never fails to impress. Honestly, I donāt know what kind of sorcery they put into their chicken, but itās always crispy, juicy, and seasoned with just the right amount of spice, enough kick to make it interesting but not overwhelming. The crust is golden and crunchy without being greasy, which is exactly what good fried chicken should be š
The sides were solid too. The coleslaw was fresh and crisp, balancing out the richness of the meal, and the baked beans had a nice smoky sweetness that paired perfectly with the chicken.
Food does take a little time since the chicken is fried to order, but itās absolutely worth the wait. Just be careful as it comes out piping hot, so resist the temptation to dive in too quickly!
Service is consistently great, too. The staff is attentive, friendly and even check in midway through your meal to make sure everything is good.
Overall, Gusās is a must-visit if youāre craving fried chicken thatās flavorful, satisfying, and done right. Definitely a spot Iād...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI liked the food but didn't LOVE the food. Probably a victim of expectations, I had heard raves about the place. The 2 piece white plate was a smallish breast and a wing with virtually no meat on it, accompanied by baked beans and slaw with a piece of white bread that was a bit stale. This set me back $12+ tax and tip. Best part was the chicken coating which is quite tasty and salvaged 4* for the meal. The beans and slaw were unremarkable. I also tried the coconut pie which I had similarly heard raves about. Again, seemed small given the $5 price. They ask if you want it warm or cold. I'd recommend warm. It's not coconut cream pie, but a denser sugary filling like you'd find in a pecan pie, but of course with a completely different flavor. Crust was a bit dense for my liking, but not bad. Overall, at a total of $22 this seemed to be priced at least 30% over my comfort zone for a meal like this. Do take out and remove the tip from...
