I live across the street from this restaurant and it used to be my go-to Chinese restaurant for take out with my partner. Between the two of us, we have ordered at least 8 times within the last 2 years. Unfortunately the quality of the food is very inconsistent. Last Wednesday, I ordered for pick up at 8 pm and the order was not ready when I arrived at 7:55 pm. It was clear that they were behind on my order and instead of asking me to wait longer, they gave me a really rushed order - which I could taste in the food. I ordered garlic eggplant, kung pao chicken, and the dry fried black bean seafood plate. The garlic eggplant was completely undercooked - the eggplant had no seasoning and was not cooked as expected. I have ordered this dish from here before. The kung pao chicken had no flavor or seasoning whatsoever - not even soy sauce flavor. The chicken pieces were all soggy and the peanuts were as well - it tasted like boiled peanuts instead of sautéed, crunchy peanuts. Everything had been sitting in oil and the extreme amount of oil in the dish made it almost inedible. I have ordered this dish from here before so this was unexpected as well. I have never come across a kung pao chicken like this before (it's one of my favorite Chinese dishes) and will never order it from here again. The dry fried black bean seafood platter (J14) was the only redeemable dish - I order this every time. The portion size and protein quantity has noticeably decreased since the last time I ordered. Overall, I don't think I will be returning to this restaurant unless I have a zha jiang mian craving. I'm super disappointed to...
Read more*UPDATE: 07.11.24 11am There must be a different inexperienced chef as today's dishes were AWFUL, salty, flavorless; -Jjajangmyun (Blackbean Noodles) = noodles weren't the correct noodles at all, sauce was oily and bland -Broccoli Beef = couldn't distinguish what type of protein this was as it certainly didn't taste like beef, was old, broccoli was old not crisp, sauce was flavorless. Also asked for it to be made spicy, they "forgot", we were the 1st and only customers in at 11am :/ -XO Seafood Chow Fun was oily, way too salty, but seafood was fresh (probably because it was from a frozen bag) Service was ok, nothing great about it. Our favorite assistant manager wasn't there today. If they changed chefs then we'll avoid from now on.
Past Review; Delicious, fresh, hot, clean food! Owner is ethnic Chinese born in South Korea! We ordered B12 Whole Fish (Rock Cod), came crispy smothered in delicious vegetable sauce, very big! The B7 Fried Whole Sole Fish in Chili Sauce (pictured flat lying fish) is even more delicious (less bones) but both are so tender, moist and good!
The Mushu Beef is also very yummy, came with 5-6 wraps, sliced green onions & oyster sauce. The Jjajangmyun is authentic, tastes exactly like back in Korea decades ago the original hand cut noodles in black bean & pork sauce.
Service was friendly and excellent, the lovely young lady Taiwanese (born in USA) Manager was super delightful.
Restaurant is always full of Korean patrons and busy with to-go orders so food is particularly delicious!

Read moreThis Korean-Chinese restaurant has stood the test of time. Typically, these restaurants are popular for a year or so, and then, as more people go through it, the food quality goes down in general. Beijing isn't an exception. When they first opened, the dishes were great including the staple that Korean-Chinese restaurants must get right - THE JJAJANGMYUN. After a couple years though, I felt the food quality drop. Rumors had it that the chef had left or the owner had changed. And it really went downhill. However, in more recent times, like 2018, something happened where food quality started to go back up. Not just the black bean noodles, but all the seafood or meat dishes also got an upgrade. Wait times were kept under control while the service improved as well as the food. And most importantly, the price remained minimally increased. Korean-Chinese cuisine is the staple of weekend eat out for a regular down-to-earth Korean family, And this restaurant is just that, perhaps the only one in the Bay Area. Super happy that Beijing has remained truthful to the authenticity that it needs to stay truthful to the needs of the Korean community here. And yes, we've already been here too many times. And...
