An amazing Indian restaurant modern vibes, great ambience in a classic upscale location. Jaks is definitely delivering the goods.
They definitely have changed the game when it comes to delivering Indian cuisine especially with the use of betel leaf in their deserts and appetizers.
Went there in a group of 6 and to start with parking can be a bit of a challenge though patience can get you through.
Got in and we're welcome by an amazing host who got us to a table for 8 I'd say right away and the place was already bustling with folks.
To start with the appetizers we got going with almost everything vegetarian that was available on the menu ( something unique about their menu is that they do mention if the dish is vegan , has dairy etc which leaves nothing to imagination from a customer's perspective in case they happen to have dietary restrictions).
We got an order each of Banarasi paan patta chaat, Tuk aloo aur bhadang, Martaban mushroom and pineapple followed by Thecha paneer tikka. Paan patta chaat is an absolute unique concept and turned out to be one of our collective favorites for the evening. The mushroom pineapple skewer was good though the mushroom tasted a bit funny. Paneer tikka with the green sauce smeared amongst the sliced paneer had some taste and appeal to the dish as well.
Getting on with the evening we ordered Makhmali paneer , Do din ki daal and Jackfruit salli (happened to be t he chef signature special for the evening) along with parottas, a combination of Ghee, fenugreek and rosemary garlic parotta (a few of each). We did get the Fresh salad as well for the table. There was a bit of delay in the getting our dinner served though it wasn't all that bad after all :).
We have had better Daal for sure which means that the crew needs to do a better job going forward with the daal. Paneer was awesome and very well cooked. As well the salad tasted very fresh and had a nice combination of fruits and leafy veggies to the same. The parottas didn't disappoint and were very filling with along with the dishes. As well ordered a few mango lassis and they definitely were not the run of the mill kind and the chef definitely must have spent some time getting it right. Tasted awesome with the chia seed combo as was told to me by my friends on table as i didn't get one for myself.
We ended the evening with the deserts namely Paan kulfi aur malaiyo (very unique concept and tasted out of this world good and Amaras shrikhand ( spread out on Ghevar which is again something very unique and turned out amazing) which definitely had the right balance of sweet to it and was done to perfection.
While ordering the dinner I ordered the Zaika lamb and Awadhi biryani as to go items which were brought out right at the end when we got ready to handle the check( so that I could carry them out warm and fresh) . The biryani was amazing with the delicately prepared yogurt. Lamb with the greens and curry tasted phenomenal. Very nicely done I'd say for each of those.
Definite recommendation to stop by if you happen to be around. I wouldn't mind even driving to get here to have a taste with how they are trying to redefine Indian cuisine with an amazing vibe and upscale...
Read moreAn Absolutely Exceptional Dining Experience at Jaks Authentic Indian & Modern Vibe!
I had dinner at Jaks last night, and from start to finish, it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant has a clean and welcoming atmosphere with a nice modern touch while still keeping the authenticity of Indian dining. There was no music, which actually made it calm and relaxing, perfect for enjoying the food and having good conversation.
I ordered the biryani, and it was easily the best I’ve ever had in California. The flavours were perfectly balanced, rich, aromatic, and full of depth. Each grain of rice was infused with just the right amount of spice, and the meat was incredibly tender and juicy. You could really taste the care and expertise that went into its preparation. The portion size was generous, and every bite reminded me of the traditional biryanis I’ve had in top restaurants abroad. It’s clear that the chef knows how to bring out authentic flavours without making the dish heavy or oily.
To go with it, I ordered a mango lassi with chia seeds, and it was outstanding. The lassi was thick, creamy, and refreshingly sweet, with a distinct mango flavour that tasted natural and fresh. The addition of chia seeds was a creative twist that gave it extra texture and nutrition.
Service was another highlight; fast, friendly, and attentive. The staff made sure everything came out promptly and checked in just the right amount. I also appreciate that the meat was halal, which was a big bonus and something I always look for when choosing restaurants.
Overall, Jaks exceeded all my expectations. The food, service, and presentation were top-notch. If you’re looking for authentic Indian flavours with a modern dining vibe, Jaks is absolutely worth a visit. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending it to...
Read moreNot sure how everyone’s giving this place a 5* rating, but being a Bay Area native and having tried a lot of the Indian fine dine experiences, I can say this one is the worst in terms of three factors, (A) Service: The manager absolutely has no training in hospitality and argues with the customer when the customer points out a flaw or issue (B) Quality: Most of the food was near-bland with minimal tastes and a severe lack of salt (staple for Indian cuisine). The drinks are made by a person who is likely not a certified specialist, as I was observing this person (trying to) make drinks while waiting for our table. (C) Cost to ambience ratio: Very high cost, minimal ambience, with uncomfortable chairs and no vibrancy.
Anecdote: The “2 pc cheese parotha” is actually 1 pc of frozen Laccha paratha which you can buy from any Indian grocery store, with a layer of cheese ontop and pineapple. The mango mojito was simply soda water with a hint of mango flavor. When described to the waiter, they said “this is how it tastes without ice”. When escalated to the manager, the manager started arguing with us and explaining how a Mojito is made, and when I shared that I also know what a Mojito is and the drink we were served was NOT a mojito he simply started blaming us for not understanding and saying it’s the lack of ice that causes us to not taste the ingredients (which were clearly missing) The rotis / naans are neither rotis, nor naans, but some in-between
The only silver lining was that the main course was decent (albeit lacking salt and a bit on the blander side) compared to the overall experience.
High hopes,...
