Jang Mo Ji's food was pretty average and service was spotty. Came here as a group at around 11pm. We had the tteok-bokki, Korean fried chicken, fried mandu, and seafood pajeon. Only the mandu stood out, because it was crispy and had a well seasoned filling.
The tteok-bokki sauce wasn't spicy or flavorful and the rice cakes themselves we're kind of doughy and room temperature. I feel like I've had better at street food stands in South Korea.
The KFC was crispy and juicy, but the batter was bland. We dipped the chicken into various sauces that came with our other dishes and it made it better, so I'd recommend ordering the fried chicken with sauce.
The seafood pajeon was a major let-down, even though it was fairly crispy. I could barely taste any seafood. It really felt like a rip off. I've eaten pajeon at a bunch of places and they all had at least chunks of squid or some other seafood. The "seafood" in this pancake seemed like it was whatever scraps was left over.
To top it off, we had to ask for banchan for the table and all we got we're four plates with: seasoned bean sprouts, fish cake in sweet (gochujang?) sauce, young kim chi, and cubed daikon. We didn't get any refill of our waters, so we mainly drank our liter of Hite.
It's a small mom and pop located on the outside corner of a business park. You probably could find it from the streets because of their neon signs, but you wouldn't know what it was initially from just looking at the exterior.
The interior of the restaurant was nothing to write home about, though fairly reminiscent of typical Korean mom and pop restaurants: small, with about 10 tables, and boxes of alcohol stacked up. Orange lighting and a TV on the wall lit the room. It looks like a place that mainly serves Korean locals, though the menu is in English.
We came here because we couldn't get seated at another spot. It's unfortunate that Jang Mo Jip couldn't impress and make us feel positive that leaving the other place was a good decision. The food at here is also kind of pricey, our tab coming to around $80+ total. I probably won't ever come to this...
Read morePicked this place after I googled “late night Korean food near me”. A few places in Santa Clara popped up. Decided to give this restaurant a shot after looking at the pics, but without reading the reviews. Still didn’t read the reviews since I’ve already been there. Entered a restaurant full of Korean men having an after work dinner/drinks ; at least 3-4 tables with one customer shouting at/into his phone “I love you”. The vibes of this place is literally taking one back to Korea 2 decades ago. Literally everyone is speaking Korean. I ordered my favorite nakji-bokkeum. I was tempted to try my other Korean favorite seafood jjukkumi but the waitress said nakji-bokkeum is more popular. Banchan were mostly spicy which I prefer but my friend could only eat the non spicy bean sprouts and ordered the bbq pork belly which was cooked in the kitchen as minimum of 2 orders are required for bbq. Everything is relatively tasty but since it is my 1st visit, I couldn’t tell if this place provides a different set of banchan and bbq ingredients if u ordered 2 portions and grilled at the table vs having it cooked back in the kitchen. I noticed afterwards that at 2 other tables that ordered bbq, they had lettuce leaves to wrap their meat with vs my friend getting only raw garlic, green chili pepper slices and dips. My nakji-bokkeum had a decent amount of nakji 🐙 but the taste wasn’t impressive. If I go to this restaurant again, I’ll try the soup for my late night Korean food cravings since it stays open late till midnight according to Google. Not really into the Korean bbq…prefer Japanese beef for bbq. This place seems rather pricey overall with no ambiance to speak of that will justify the prices unless you prefer the suburban...
Read moreExtremely RUDE restaurant and servers. I went in by myself at 11pm and not only did they completely ignore you if you are only by yourself, but when a large group came in at about the time I was done the server essentially pointed to the group waiting by the door and pointed with her finger at my table. Shooing me out to make space. Did I mention that their tea cup for patrons smelled like detergent? Guess they didn't care about cleanliness either.
I left them a tip, but they later changed it and made it more than what I gave them for. Good thing I caught this with pictures of the bill I signed.
