I'm pining for fantastic pizza here in the Santa Clarita Valley...having just moved here from the San Fernando Valley where we had an embarrassment of riches of really good NYC style pizza and a couple of authentic Chicago spots as well. None of that really exists up here so we get what we get and hope fo the best.
Pocock isn't NYC style but it's really good artisan style pizza. The crust in particular is fantastic...check out the cheese pizza photo with my review...it really is legendary in terms of look and taste. They have every right to be proud of it.
I do wish they put a little more sauce on the pizza as it's the right combo of cheese, crust and sauce which does the trick for a basic cheese pie and this one had a little too little sauce for it to be as present as I'd wanted. This is actually fairly common with pizza joints...not enough sauce...so perhaps it's just my preference is not the norm. I don't really want "extra" sauce...I just want it to be present throughout all my bites in perfect harmony with the cheese and crust.
My wife had their margherita on gluten-free crust. Well, first of all kudos to them for offering it, but it's nothing to write home about. This is the same basic, probably purchased out of house gluten free-crust that many restaurants offer to check off the box. It really wasn't good to begin with and on top of which it was burnt...Glancing at the photo with this review, I'm sure you probably will wonder how they let that one out the door. I wish (or my wife wishes to be accurate) they'd put even a smidgen of the thought into making a good gluten-free crust that they put into their fantastic regular crust.
I'd get the cheese again and specify extra sauce to be safe. And vegetarians rejoice, 5 of their 11 pizzas are vegetarian (plus you can build your own.)
I would definitely give it another try...my gluten free wife...
Β Β Β Read moreI chose to come here to wait out traffic. I was looking for something hoppy and when they didn't have the style I was looking for, I was offered a suggestion between a double IPA and a Honey Pale Ale. I was curious about whether or not the Honey Pale Ale was going to be too sweet for my preference, so I asked if I could taste it before buying some pints. I was kind of surprised when the bartender said that they don't do tasters and that a full 4oz tasters must be purchased.
The management should adjust the apparent policy of no samples. I'm no stranger to the beer industry, I've worked in breweries and bars for 13 years. I understand the volatility of the current market and how spillage adds up. I also understand that given the opportunity, there are customers who will taste everything on the menu before making a decision. So, I get why such a policy exists.
The bartender did a good job. I've just never worked at or been to a brewery where they didn't let someone sample something they were curious about, and I'm just posting this in hopes that the management will become aware of how...
Β Β Β Read moreI first heard of this brewery from a flyer distributed at Lancaster, CA Field of Drafts. With some research and forward excitement about the beers and opportunity to stop on my commute home to grab a growler, I anxiously awaited my chance. 2 years later and I got my opportunity , I stop in, read the menu with excitement and ask for a growler of Marque, and wham my problem arises....I like many other people carry a stainless growler and came to find out they won't fill it.....huh? No "I'm sorry customer", just cold shouldered , with a crippled first impression. I elected to move along to pursue hoppyness elsewhere.
So more of a warning to ya'll carrying a stainless growler with a goal in mind, move along and if you're heading to or through Palmdale/Lancaster I recommend Bravery brewing, Transplants, Lucky Luke's or others , as I've had my steel growler happily filled .
P.s. I get it, it's a business, the right to blah blah blah. Maybe with feed back they'll consider a change though and service the metal...
