Unsanitary kitchen with foreign objects in food. Eat at this restaurant at your own risk. My husband and I just moved to the area and were excited to try the restaurants in town. We are big time foodies and we love to try new restaurants. While I was eating chips and salsa at Sabor, I bit into a foreign object that chipped the crown on my tooth. It cost me $755.00 to replace my chipped crown. I said nothing at the time of the incident because I did not want to ruin the evening, nor did I want the restaurant to think I was looking for a free meal. I also did not know the extent of the damage to my tooth until I went to the dentist. I was planning to call the health department and report the restaurant for health code violations. Other restaurants in the area encouraged me to call Sabor and give them a chance to make things right. Even the dentist encouraged me to call the restaurant. I decided to call the restaurant and spoke to the manager Luis, who spoke to the owner. And as I suspected they plan to do nothing about it. I should not have bothered to call the restaurant and give them a chance. They could care less about their customers. I will go ahead and call the health department, as I originally planned to do. I am beyond disgusted by the garbage I was served at this restaurant.
Here is my critique on their food before I found the foreign object in my food. We liked the rib eye tacos and the ceviche. However, the chili relleno’s and mole are another story. Chile relleno’s are my favorite Mexican dish. Sabor’s chili relleno’s are the worst I have ever had. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, I ordered them on two different occasions. The first was with chicken. The chicken was dry and tasteless. I could not eat it. The second time I had a cheese chili relleno. It was deep fried, flat and tasteless. The tomato sauce it was served in was bland and tasteless. A flop of a meal. My husband ordered the chicken mole. The mole sauce was great, however, the chicken was dry and leathery. Another flop of a meal. You could not pay us to eat at this restaurant again. We were not planning on returning.
Whether I chipped my tooth or not, we would not have returned to this restaurant anyway. The food is subpar and not fit for us foodies nor our foodie friends. Do yourself a favor and visit other great Mexican restaurants in the area. I recommend Madres or Patrons. Madres margaritas are to die for. I recommend the fresh strawberry margarita. It’s my favorite.
If you like subpar meals and garbage in your food then Sabor is your place. Good...
Read moreI don’t enjoy posting bad reviews, but I feel this situation should be shared. I had an excellent experience here with a close friend a week ago; and having been quarantined for the better part of a year was excited to return for Sunday brunch.
We were happy to wait an estimated 45 minutes, and enjoyed a Topo Chico while standing outside in the garden area.
We had asked if it would be possible to dine outside, and were told ‘yes’, if a table was available at the time we were called.
When we were called for our table — we walked past two tables that had recently been cleared and were ready. When I asked if we could dine outside, we were told no, the tables were for other guests waiting.
We had been told they don’t take reservations, and inquired as to how other guests reserved tables — the hostess showed me the wait list, and said it was for someone who came after us, and we would have to wait another 20 min for an outside table.
To me, “first-come-first-served & no reservations” means just that. I was polite and inquired so that I would know how to ‘reserve’ an outdoor table for the future.
The response from the hostess was terse and unfriendly; she was clearly annoyed with my line of questioning, and I was honestly surprised at her reaction based on my past experience here, and the overall quality of the restaurant itself.
I can understand the policies set in place, but my expectation would be consistency for all guests, and if there is a miscommunication/misunderstanding— for it to be handled with an appropriate level of customer service equal to the restaurant’s location.
We have not yet decided if we will come back or not. There are many such restaurants in the Olmos Park area, and we may decide to try out luck elsewhere...
Read moreThis is not just a restaurant; it's a delightful journey into the heart of Mexican culinary artistry. The moment I stepped in, I was enveloped in an ambiance that can only be described as a beautiful dream, where every design element, especially the enchanting chandelier made with red hearts, seemed to have been chosen with the intent of transporting diners to a world of whimsy and warmth.
The real magic, however, unfolded with each dish prepared by the exceptionally talented chef. The food was a masterful display of the right amount of spice, bringing out the authentic flavors of Mexico, yet catering perfectly to a diverse palate. It was evident that every ingredient was selected with care and every spice used with a deep understanding of its impact on the overall dish.
What truly set my experience apart was the exemplary service. The staff, attentive and knowledgeable, added to the welcoming atmosphere, making me feel more like an honored guest than just another customer. Their professionalism and warmth perfectly complemented the magical environment.
