Sad to say that I will no longer be coming to stagnaros after over 20 years of giving business to them and will no longer be recommending them to the thousands of guests that come though my hotel asking me as a local where the best seafood is. I've worked for hotels such as Hilton, Dream Inn, Best Western and others.. As well as my current property on Ocean St. If my guests were to have the same experience that my wife and I had the last time we visited I would be absolutely appalled. The reason here I'm saying this is because my server was so incredibly rude, I've never experienced this before at Stagnaros. I asked my waiter a simple question about a dish that I was interested in and is answer was so hostile and condescending. The entire time he was speaking to me was as if if was being talked down too. Like he was upset to be helping me or as if I was waisting his time. Any requests I had for extra sauces or drinks he would ignore me or take much longer than needed. I can tell you that the restaurant itself was not very busy at the time and there was plenty of other servers in their sections. It's not like he was distracted or overworked. I could tell he just didn't want to help me. Then after requesting the check he brings it to me and this is where it all makes sense. As most people have probably noticed receipts now days give you an option to leave a tip. Some show the percentage of the bill and the tip that they are suggesting you leave. Example " 15% $5 20% $10. 25% $15 " My servers actually circles the amount that he wants before giving me the check. In this case my bill was over $100 foe just us two. So he wanted something like $25 for literally treating my wife and I like garbage. I guess because of the way we look he assumed we were broke thus not going to tip him. So his attitude from the beginning was terrible because of that. Such entitlement for something that's supposed to be gratuity. He treated us like we were homeless people asking for a free meal. He should be ashamed of himself and fired. I tipped him his $25. Even though his service was terrible, he was rude and acted so entitled. I won't allow anyone else I know to have this same experience. Again very sad that I can no longer recommend this place or sit down to a meal with...
Read moreWe wanted to like the restaurant. The host was very responsive and polite, and the wait for the table was as she had stated. But, that’s the end of the good news. We were seated, and after around 10 minutes we were brought water and told our server would be with us soon. (Side note: at this time there was a flippant female server who kept telling her tables that she didn’t know when they would get food, and that other tables hadn’t been served either.) After another 15 minutes (now a total of 25) we flagged down the person who brought the water, and asked if we had a server. He then flagged down a server who said he didn’t know why no one had been there, but that he would step in. He took our drink and appetizer order. After another 15 minutes the manager brought our drinks (except my daughter’s). We asked what happened to the original server, and would the person who stepped in continue to be our server. He didn’t know what to say and that the server who stepped in would continue. After another 15 minutes, we asked what happened to the server as we hadn’t seen him since taking the appetizer and drink order, and that my daughter still didn’t have her drink. The manager said that the server would be getting our appetizer to us right away. 5 minutes later the server brought the appetizer (I don’t know why cold smoked salmon took 30 minutes.) and took our dinner order. That actually came out fairly quickly about 15-20 minutes. The cioppino was fairly flavorless (lacked seasoning) and the fish was dry and overcooked, the clam chowder is also lacking seasoning and was like they had opened a can of condensed soup, the salmon again lacked seasoning, but was actually cooked nicely as was the pasta, the calamari was chewy and tasted as if it were cooked from frozen, again lacking seasoning. When we attempted to let the manager know of our concerns (when he asked) his response was to make excuses and to indicate that the table comes with salt. He then brought our check and asked if we wanted to add dessert. 3/4 of us didn’t finish even a quarter of our food, not offered boxes which we would have refused as the food was so subpar, and you bring the check and THEN ask if we wanted dessert?! Save yourselves the trouble. Don’t dine here. They really don’t want or...
Read moreFirst impressions were ok. We were seated and our server was at our table quickly. Our server was very pleasant and informative. We start with glasses of water that didn't taste very good followed by being told they don't have the wine I selected. I picked a substitute and moved on. The smoked salmon appetizer tasted more like something pre-made in a package and not like "their" salmon. The dinner rolls were more like something that should be served with a brothy soup as they were hard and chewy. The surf and turf that my husband chose was sub par. The menu stated it is served with filet Mignon. What was on that plate was far from a filet Mignon cut. The meat was stringy when cut and felt gelatinous when touched. The meat was a medium sized flat cut, clearly not a cut of beef tenderloin. The mixed vegetables must have came out of the freezer as they were watery and bland. The French fries were unusually greasy and were chewy. They weren't even hot, like they have been sitting around and were maybe microwaved before being served. The shrimp on the plate were good at least. I ordered the seafood linguine and was served what appeared like pasta in Spaghetti O's sauce. When tasted, no surprise, it tasted like it too. The side salad had almost no dressing on it which I can deal with except they put it on a plate the exact size of the salad so that if you so much as try to touch it, it's falling off the plate. The manager heard my concerns, apologized, and took the plates. He offered new food but we had no more time and had to catch a train hungry. Honestly, even if I had the time, I don't trust that I would have been served quality food. Being there on the pier you would think anywhere would certainly be good. All of the other places on the pier that we tried were great. This place doesn't belong on the pier charging those prices to serve Sub par food. They cannot compete with the other restaurants there. Many thanks to our server for being the best part of our...
