We had dinner her a few days back and I can't believe I did not know this place. It is in Santa Monica and I love Thai food. This place is just great.
The place is beautiful and comfortable. Wherever you sit, you will be very comfortable. It is also so clean and I love their restrooms. It is really nice with a lovely entry and the decor is great.
The service here is so good. They come to you as soon as you are seated and are happy to help with the menu. The food is served hot and pretty fast. We were checked on a few times and that is important to me as I tend to add more food or drink.
All of their food is great. Their appetizers really stand out and I often order a bunch for the table and turn that into my dinner. That is what I did here. We loved the Bangkok Roll which is a vegetable roll with mixed greens, fresh basil leaves, cucumber, carrot, angel hair and tofu wrapped in a fine rice paper and served on a bed of homemade sweet & sour and mustard sauce. The Shrimp Roll is my favorite. It is just like the Bangkok roll except you have shrimp instead of tofu. YUM. The emperor duck rolls are a must try with rice paper wrap stuffed with mixed greens, basil leaves, cucumbers, angel hair and roasted duck meat. It is wonderful

Without question, the most beautiful, elegant Thai restaurant in L.A. Whoever designed it should get some kind of award.
The food? Very good. I focus on a few dishes which have always drawn me to Thai restaurants. My favorite dish is Tom Kha Gai soup. And there is amongst the best I've had - creamy, lush, decadent, and big, big flavor. I have no had better - not in Thai town, not at Jitlada. There's is the best I've tried (I haven't tried every Thai restaurant in L.A., but certainly the well regarded ones including Talesai, Night + Market, Jitlada, Emporium Thai (which has a very charming room). This dish alone will keep me coming back. The Yum Gai soup is also very good (a great weight-watcher meal). The satay's are great, cooked correctly with good quality ingredients. Duck, chili/cashew nut chicken, curries, calamari. Also find things on the menu that deviate from the usual. Which is always a good idea. Everything has always been very good. Glad I don't have to drive far...
Read moreThe place looks really nice and the table settings are pretty. So it gets 2 stars for that. They used a ton of plates, i don't know why plate over plate over plate, but that's OK I guess. Thing is the food wasn't good, though excellent Thai tea. I ordered pineapple fried rice and it tasted a little burned with a lot of rice, just 2 shrimp and 2 pieces of chicken. Then, my boyfriend got the hot and sour soup and he returned it. Changed for mama's chicken soup and the broth was actually good but then the chicken in it was really hard. I had to chew a piece of it like 80 times, like hard rubber. The chicken satay (Thai sticks) were alright and it came with a little seasoned cucumber garnish that was actually really good. I saw that they prepared veggies very well, they looked good but on other people's table. The waitress didn't come check on us and the place wasn't that busy. Had to wait a long time to get my order in and to get the check. Not coming back. I regret not hitting a Panda Express instead of spending...
