Have been repeated patrons to both Occidental and this location for few years! Zero issue experienced with Occidental location and in fact, Barbara at Occidental location knows us by our names! We even repeatedly ordered takeouts from this location throughout the first lockdown in 2020! We even came to this location while indoor sitting was restricted and didn't mind their outdoor sitting offered to us back then as we wanted to support businesses during the first lockdown, shutdown when businesses were under COVID-19 related restrictions! We finally returned for many dine-ins after restrictions lifted and continued our patronage to this location ever since then by both dine-ins and takeouts! We always left at least 30% tip for our dine-ins and even left at 25% tip for our takeouts! Until recently, we walked in for lunch and stood by front counter, dinning room entrance while we noticed their bar sitting and to go activities were at peak-time and all their staff including front end, to go orders were busy with their activities and even server who was handling bar sitting was also busy! Somehow, none of the staff would even care to say "Hello! Someone will be right with you!" Even at McDonald's where low paid workers would greet us regardless their activities! We continued standing at same spot and hoping someone will greet us or lead us into dinning room but no staff did greet us as we stood there for over 15 minutes so we left! I find that extremely unacceptable, rude and even improfessional to conduct their business that way or perhaps their staff were way snobby thinking this location is an upscale eating place and they're entitled to be snobby! We have been to upscale bars, restaurants including places in the Silicon Valley and even Beverly Hills and we were always treated properly, professionally, friendly by staff who work at those places! This restaurant has just lost our support and even if someone would offer us $1,000 to go there, we will take the dough and would go somewhere...
Read moreThis Thanksgiving, both of my sons were busy with their other family. I was left alone for Thanksgiving :-(. My son Ryan booked a table for me at Santa Rosa Union Hotel. He told me that he really loves the restaurant. I have never been there. I have been to the one in Occidental 40 times over forty years.
The Santa Rosa Union Hotelnta blows the Occidental one out of the water.
The interior decorations are fantastic. Everything is new and modern. The tables are well situated. The decore is perfect. I was immediately greeted by friendly staff. I spent a few moments in the bar enjoying a bloody mary. The bar is totally set up if you enjoy sports on large screen televisions and drinking with friends.
My table was ready right away. I was seated right in front of the fireplace , which made my Thanksgiving dinner even better.
They must have given me the best waitress in the entire house. She was polite, efficient, and friendly. She took care of me throughout the entire meal. This is why I gave her a 30% tip. Good service must be acknowledged.
The Thanksgiving dinner was one of the best I've had in many, many years. It was just like mom used to make. The chef's got it perfect. I savored every bite. The excellent food and service relinquished my sadness.
I've been looking for a new quality restaurant for months.I found my new go-to spot! The Union Hotel in Santa Rosa.
11/30/24 update. It was so good on Thanksgiving that I'm going back to night 11/30/24 to try the special prime rib dinner. 😋. I booked my reservations online, and it was super simple.
The Gonnella's have hit a home run out of the ball park! 3 cheers for a job well done. Try it, you'll like it!
12-23-24 I returned for Christmas Eve Prime rib dinner. It was out of this world! My waitress Liddy was awesome. Another 5 stars...
Read moreWent for dinner last night. There were few tables occupied and we were seated quickly. It was a bit before we were greeted by the server who took our drink order and provided plates for breadsticks, then we were abandoned for quite a period of time. When we ordered, we were told breadsticks would be right out and still no drinks beyond water. I noted the time we were seated as I silenced my phone, it was 52 minutes for breadsticks and 54 minutes to get a draft beer. Food arrived right after and was largely terrible. The only positive comment was "the vegetables are good", 2 of us had Braised Short Ribs but were served some sort of tough sliced pot roast in a tasteless sauce. The meat had not even been cooked in the sauce to simulate short ribs. When out server asked how tasty dinner was we told her it was all tough and not good. She responded we should have said something earlier, would they then have brought out real short ribs? Chicken Marsala and Chicken Parmesan were both tough, even the draft beer (Stella) was off and I'm not sure if it was old of just the wrong beer. The topper was that folks seated after us and experiencing the same slow progress were rushed out as we were leaving @ 8:00. As if the customers were at fault for waiting so long for their orders, they were closing @ 8 come hell or high water. I apologized to my family for making the choice of restaurants, won't repeat that bad choice again. Something was so off last night that they should not have opened, the general reviews were good and I assumed it would be at least a...
