Never thought I'd write a bad review about Don JuaquĂn, but here I am.
It wasn't slammed when we got there, so "busyness" isn't an excuse. I'm all the years we've been to a DJ, we've loved it 100%.
But if you want to be overcharged for a wrong order with substitute meats trying to trick us, and walk out with food poisoning from the condiments bar, then this is the place for you!
We ordered 7 tacos, 1 burrito, 2 gringas, a rice and beans, and a quesadilla.
The first problem was the dude taking the order. He was taking our order when he answered the phone, started taking another order asking us to wait, then switching back to us, then switching back to the phone, about 4 times. I had to repeat the order a few times. He kept making mistakes and putting the other order on ours and vice versa.
Suddenly when id finished, he asked me to pay and walked away w the phone. I paid, crossing my fingers, and found a seat.
We got (and were charged) 11 tacos, no gringas. The carnitas in the burrito was undercooked. 2 of the carnitas tacos were 1/3 carnitas, and 2/3s a sorta roast beef. Distinct colors, tastes, both not good. Not what we ordered. No gringas (on gringas discount night... Surprise? Maybe they didn't wanna honor the discount to make more money?) The cabeza was pale, slimy, undercooked.
Then, when I went to get onions, cilantro, the cilantro was with, and a lot of black edges. The onions were almost see through (they should be white, fresh). I asked for fresh ones and the guy looked at it and shakes his head and walked away.
At this point, everyone lost their appetite, and we left without even eating even half the food. We hated wasting it but it wasn't worth eating.
These guys had bad service, and bad food. Such a disappointment.
Owner? If you see this, I'm here if you want to reconcile this. A refund would be ideal. This review stays until someone tries to...
Read morePretty good but you need to know Spanish to pretty much order or get your food. They will call your number out in Spanish, so while waiting you can google how to pronounce your order number in Spanish so you know when it’s called. I ordered the chicken green burrito and got a steak green burrito. The steak was extremely tough to eat, most pieces un-chewable. The pineapple salsa is extremely hot, but I knew that prior to eating it. The menu was confusing to read because sometimes English is the primary language (English font is large and then Spanish font smaller) but then in other parts of the menu, Spanish is the primary language. Just confusing, nothing major. Their specials of the day are nice like on Monday. It’s burrito day so you get like a dollar off but then they won’t give you a dollar off on their green burrito that’s smothered which doesn’t really make sense. You can’t smother any other burrito other than the green one, just doesn’t make...
Read moreMy first visit to the new restaurant Don Joaquin in Saratoga Springs for mexican food was a disappointment. The breakfast steak burrito I ordered was a letdown from the get-go. The fried eggs were not scrambled as expected, but rather resembled a pre-cooked omelet that had been carelessly reheated in a microwave. The absence of cheese and other essential ingredients robbed it of any authentic taste.
To make matters worse, the Carna asada fries were served in a meager portion, considering the price paid. Although they were palatable, the size did not justify the cost. Additionally, the six special tacos we ordered were missing the cheese topping, which further added to our dissatisfaction.
Even the supposedly flavorful Carna asada burrito fell short, lacking any discernible taste or freshness. Despite our request for red sauce, we received only one packet for an order exceeding $40.00. This lack of attention to detail and flavor left us feeling...
