Went to this place for dinner after my son's swimming lesson at Foss nearby. I have mixed reviews about this place. We ordered the giant pretzel for an appetizer. It really is giant, but the beer cheese sauce it came w/ tasted very powdery. It was like someone took Kraft Mac & Cheese powder & mixed it w/ beer & liquid cheese. The pretzel itself was just a normal-tasting pretzel, nothing special. My wife ordered the shrimp tacos (it was Taco Tuesday so we were told all tacos were $11.99 that day) - they were very citrusy but delicious. She said there were the amount of 3 tacos stuffed into 2. They also came w/ chips & salsa. The chips were equivalent to any restaurant chip you can get anywhere. The salsa tasted like tomato paste, she said. (I didn't taste it, don't like salsa.) I ordered the French Dip w/ cheddar cheese. The cheese was $1.00 extra & you could also add "mild giardiniera mix" for $1.00. I did not order that but when the meal came it had that on anyway. It also included a pickle which suck. I sent it back asking for no "veggies" & no pickle. When I got it back it still had a pickle, but no "veggies." Whatever. I ate it. The meat itself was delicious, along w/ the fries came w/ it. My son ordered the Texas Ham & Turkey Melt w/ no Dijon mayo. He ate it later that night & absolutely loved it. When the check came the waitress told us they comped the sandwich. Well, they didn't, they just took off $2.00 for the cheese & mix. They also discounted $4.00 for something miscellaneous, but the check did not provide detail. Other than that we were charged the full amount of the tacos ($16.99) & the full amount for the French dip. At that point we just wanted to get out of there. Don't get me wrong - the food was really good. The waitress tried to do her best. It was our first time there so we had no expectations. I kept getting hit by a pickle no matter what so I just accepted it. We all ordered Coke to drink (although I had mine w/ grenadine) & it was good Coke. It did not taste like bar Coke, but real fountain Coke - it had a good mixture. My wife & I agreed we probably would not go back; my son, after eating his sandwich later that night, loved it & would definitely go back for that. So: final word. The food was pretty good. I don't know if the kitchen just doesn't pay attention or if the waitress did not communicate the "no pickle" to them. She (her name was Sam L.) was generally good at keeping our drinks filled. The menu had a lot on it, but very limited in dessert (which we did not have). Make of this...
Read moreI placed an order on line. Wait time for carry out was about 20 minutes. Average for calling at noon on a Friday. We ordered a Ruben and Rachel with onion rings and waffle fries. I went there and it was a good amount of people already enjoying their meals. There was a sign to seat yourself. Which puzzled me there was no host to handle online orders. So with a brief wait I managed to manuver through the bar to find a staff member professionally kind to go and get my order. It felt very warm almost hot to the touch through bag giving the impression it just came off the grill. While waiting I observed a clean atmosphere, tables, bar, etc. Staff looked we’ll groomed and engaging to their customers.
Got home and the meal was visually eye appealing. More than ample portions. The onion rings were from whole slices and not minced. Waffle fries are a standard side but not my cup of tea. Portions had a good ratio of meat /saukraut / cheese and dressing to make it a good choice to split between 2 people.. The only hiccup was the pumpernickel bread was a tad over toasted but hey it’s a friday, lunch time, and cold as heck outside. It a good spot in location and will probably order again but this...
Read moreOur Review of Crooked Pint Ale House Beer Selection: 5/10 Service: 5/10 Food: 10/10
We stopped by Crooked Pint for the first time while passing through town. My husband found the beer selection disappointing—it leaned heavily toward IPAs, making the options feel unbalanced. He would have preferred a broader variety, particularly more brown and amber ales.
Service was slow, but since we weren’t in a rush, it wasn’t a major issue.
The real star of the experience? The food. We started with an appetizer of poutine—waffle fries topped with cheese curds, bacon pieces, mozzarella, covered in rich brown gravy. Without a doubt, the best poutine we’ve ever had. If you go, do yourself a favor and order this—you won’t regret it. I’ll be dreaming about that poutine for weeks.
For my entrée, I chose the Asian pork tacos. They were bursting with flavor, packed with cabbage, pico, roasted corn, cheese, fried tortilla strips and cilantro. After the first bite, I told my husband they were the best tacos I've ever eaten. To wrap it up - great food, disappointing beer selection and slow service. But the poutine and pork tacos? Absolutely...
