We have visited Elizabeth’s before and enjoyed it so during a repeat visit to Savannah decided to splurge again on Elizabeth’s for a special evening out. We were sorely disappointed.
Dinner for four was that of a house payment and their “eight course” meal was hardly that. While on our initial visit there were minimal yet available choices this was a set menu without exceptions.
The salad was brown, wilted and with unripe tomatoes. The good news is it wasn’t more than two bites worth so it wasn’t much left to be disappointed with. The snapper was mediocre and the initial soup was potato soup poured on top of a couple of shrimp. The meat at the main course was delicious but certainly not enough to carry the meal much less the cost. Dessert was also the sole option provided and was fine but hardly worth the overall cost of the price per plate.
To get to our table, we were led outside and had to walk up a fire escape to get to our table. Obviously the same to leave which all again felt strange at best for what claims to be the highest end dining option in the city.
Possibly the worst of the experience were the drinks. The lemonade was only lemon juice. We sent it back and they realized the error and corrected it but not until we had all sampled unfiltered lemon juice that had been served. The wine was delicious and what you’d expect however we also ordered 2 liquor drinks from the bar and they were weak at best but seemed to be without any alcohol- for $15.00 each.
With our dessert we ordered a port wine and a coffee with Baileys. The coffee was $5.00 for black coffee and the Baileys was an extra (and expected) charge. However the coffee tasted like something that had been sitting on a counter all day long and watered down to something that was difficult to drink.
All in all, we love great meals and don’t mind paying for them. This was set to be the highlight meal of our trip to Savannah and having been there before expected and were excited to share our initial experience with our guests joining us this time. Instead, it was a mediocre meal at best, the atmosphere was weird and a strange way to be seated in a high end restaurant and the drinks were the worst we’ve ever ordered in a restaurant. All of this with a price that was obnoxious and more than twice that of other fabulous high dining experiences in town. As our meal ended we heard others at the table next to us sharing the same sentiments and disappointment. There was nothing we could do except commiserate at the money lost and share the silver lining we had enjoying time at a table with our dinner companions. Days later we still can’t believe we paid for this and feel so upset that we fell for this illusion of fine dining at a price that they should be ashamed of charging people for food that could have been on a buffet under a hot lamp and drinks that were fraudulently advertised and presented.
Learn from our mistakes. The meal was not good, the drinks were absolutely awful and the price point cut deep. There are so many better options to...

Today's restaurant is Elizabeth's on 37th.
Located in Savannah, Georgia.
Assorted small tastes from the kitchen - Quite delish, all very refreshing very tempting they offer you a hint of what is about to come.
Deconstructed taco - although clever it was not as appetizing as it seemed. It is quite mesmerizing there are not many dishes that can have such a presentation.
Tomato soup - quite a surprise, a nice refreshing soup both were very flavorful. Quite a nice balance of the acid, not as caustic as some.
Specialty salad - while ambitious in its composition, overwhelmed with its plethora of greens and lone cube of watermelon, failing to unite into a cohesive whole.
Spiced American red Snapper - emerged as a highlight, its succulent texture and vibrant flavors showcasing the chef's culinary prowess and dedication to quality ingredients.
Beef tenderloin - they accented the tenderness on this dish. The beef just melted in my mouth. I would've liked it cooked a bit more.
Brownie and a baked pie - sweet denouement, though not the highlight of the night.
-What do we think of Elizabeth's on 37th?-
It's a beautiful restaurant nestled within the walls of what appeared to be a historic home,
We did call in advance to receive a vegetarian menu as well, this one had a few less options to pick from. Every dish was made properly and with care. I also appreciate the tasting plate.
And while some dishes may have fallen short of expectations, the restaurant's embrace of an ever-evolving menu speaks about their culinary innovation and exploration. It overwhelms me just think about coming up with something new every day.
I think dishes like the taco fit in here, a brand new experience for something so classic and already established is hard yet not impossible as proven here.
I do need to note that the vegetarian courses were repetitive, a lot of the same ingredients were used to fill every other dish. I think that the effort is missing here.
Thank you to the staff and the chefs of Elizabeth's on 37th, I can't wait to see your next menu, we shall be back on our next visit to Georgia.

Read moreWhile the mansion the restaurant is housed in may be in pristine condition, the same can't be said for the extremely dated menu, service, and ambiance. The paint chipping from the ceiling reminds us that just because someone once was impressive doesn't mean we should hold it to the same regard. Fine dining may have been brought to Savannah with the introduction of this restaurant, but the only remnants of fine dining food are the ghosts of meals past. The first course was laughable. Three small bites presented haphazardly, with no regard for how they might connect with each other. The second course, 2 of us had the oysters and I had the grit cake. The presentation of the 2 oyster dishes looked like the chef had thrown whatever greens he had within reach onto the plate. Bland, unintentional, and uninspired. The grit cake had a nice texture, but lacked seasoning. For the third course, everyone at our table ordered the shrimp soup. The dishes arrived with three visibly overcooked shrimp each, which made us actually laugh out loud. The broth was quite pleasant, though the actual shrimp left much to be desired. Course four was an overdressed salad, with far too much basil. Some bites were more appealing than others, but overall a fail. For the 5th course, we had fish dishes. While all three of us had slightly different experiences, the common thread was a severe lack of seasoning. Next, we had the beef tenderloin. Again, three portions that looked similar but very different from one another. The Madeira sauce was very sweet and overpowered the steak, which lacked any real seasoning. I'll give them credit for getting the cook right, but again, a disappointment. Finally we arrived at dessert. To the pastry chef that put that out - please take your talent elsewhere. The only dish we actually enjoyed, but still felt constrained by a head chef who is stuck in 1982. The wine pairings were the only saving grace of this meal. I'm genuinely mad we spent as much time and money here for the quality of food we received. To anyone considering visiting for the first time - save your money and go literally anywhere else. And should you decide to ignore this advice, maybe take some salt packets in your pockets -...
