Upon arrival, we were seated immediately. We debated whether we wanted to stay because it was a new place, and the prices weren't as cheap as another spot we knew that had great food. The waiter came over to take our drink orders, but we were still debating, so we asked him to come back. Subtly foreshadowing: we made the wrong choice.
I originally came in wanting breakfast, but the options were slim, so we ordered the beignets as an appetizer. The insides weren’t cooked properly. I ate the outsides and rolled the leftover dough into balls so they would be aware. We also ordered oxtails and seared Atlantic salmon. For the price, I thought the $22 for the oxtails was okay, considering it came with sides (collard greens and yams). However, there were only two oxtails. At first, I thought it was just oxtails with no sides, which led me to change the sides for the salmon. Instead of eggs and grits, I chose collard greens and yams, unaware that we would end up with two sides of the same things. I also ordered a side of grits.
When the food came, the oxtails were served with two pieces of cornbread. After tasting the cornbread, I was hesitant to try anything else. My boyfriend immediately said we should’ve gone somewhere else without tasting the rest. The grits were good—thick, creamy, and hot. The yams, however, were absolutely disgusting. The "syrup" tasted like they had put vanilla extract on top. I can’t even say they were canned, because canned yams are softer, and these were firm. The collard greens were plain, which I could have dealt with, but by the time the waiter came back, I was so aggravated that I didn’t even want to ask for hot sauce.
The salmon was definitely spoiled. I begged my boyfriend not to eat it, but he wanted to “get our money’s worth” . I cook salmon way too often, so I know. It wasn’t the seasoning; it was rotten, for sure. The oxtails with rice and gravy were the only thing worth eating—too bad it wasn’t enough. The cook must’ve seen our faces, because he came over to ask how everything was. I begged my boyfriend to be nice before they asked. He’s from Florida, so he’s very blunt. In a joking manner, he told the cook it was disgusting. The cook laughed and said, "You ate it all up," and that was the end of that encounter.
Once we finished, the only thing eaten from the salmon plate was the salmon itself (unwillingly so he wouldn’t feel wasteful.) I left the greens and yams. My boyfriend And I ate the oxtails and rice, but left the yams and a slice of cornbread. The waiter asked how everything was, and I told him it wasn’t good. He said he hoped I’d enjoy it the next time I came back. We will not be back. Lesson learned: read reviews...
Read moreSo I decided to try this restaurant after seeing it being shared on Fb yesterday. We arrived around 1054 was told it would be a 10 minute wait before the waitress could take our order. It was 8 tables with no more than 3 customers at a table filled upon entering. We were told they wee backed up with orders. The hostess offered to get our drinks but never did. A couple came in and sat right behind us and the waitress immediately went to their table and asked them what they would like to drink. Currently 1109 at this time. At 1110,the waitress(Asia)finally asked for our drink selection. At 1114 we still haven’t received our drinks. Well the host just arrived with the kids drinks at 1115. Our waitress is currently at the counter taking to go orders. Still haven’t received the adult drinks and it’s currently 1117. The waitress is all over the place. It’s like she can’t stay focused on one thing. At 1119,the waitress did come and take our order but we still have not received our drinks. The restaurant has a total of like 20 people sitting down plus my party of 2 adults and 3 kids. At 1122 we finally received the coke and sweet tea for the adults. Currently 1133 and we are still waiting. Customers have arrived after us and received their food. At 1135,the kids food was brought to the table. 1138 and I am still waiting on my food but my side of shrimp is sitting here getting cold. No condiments on table or even offered. I did receive my food at 1140 but still waiting on an order of wings. I get this is a new restaurant which is why I did a timeline of the visit. Currently 1152 and I received the wings in a to go box. The food is bland. It’s not appealing. We are literally leaving hungry. I’m not saying I won’t ever return but it would have to be some major improvements. The waitress never asked if we needed anything, did checks on our table. We had to stop her for drink refills. The cups are extremely small. Customer service is lacking. $109.66 literally...
Read moreMy family and I were looking forward to eating here and left disappointed. The cups were small, but I noticed the guy sitting in front of us had a bigger cup(that’s because he knew the owner). The menu it’s really not a lot to choose from but we still gave it a try. I ordered the wings (they were to big, not seasoned) then for my sides I ordered collard greens( the menu displayed they were smoked with turkey meat) I didn’t have one piece of meat, then the greens were cut up way to big, and taste burnt. Then I had some macaroni and cheese (you can taste the smoked flavor but no flavor) plus it was cold. My son had the waffle and chicken (waffle was alright chicken to big. My husband had there fried whiting and cheese grits with an egg(the fish had more batter then anything, but it had a hint of flavor, the grits were semi cold, the egg was good he said). I got my chicken to go but ended up throwing it away when we got home. When we left I left hungry that says a lot. I went to McDonald’s just to satisfy my hunger. We understand that’s it’s new but it’s just some things that you should have in order. Hopefully it gets better, I hate to say this but I would not recommend anyone to this place. Again I hope it gets better. But I would recommend this, get NEW COOKS!!! Because either y’all family or someone said I can cook(they lied to y’all)....
