Previously, I have ordered pastries from Tous Les Jours, and I've always enjoyed their flavors and quality. I decided to purchase a cake for my daughter's birthday this year due to my past good experiences. There were many issues starting with when I called to place my order. I wanted to order a cake I saw on their website. When speaking with the lady on the phone, I repeatedly clarified the name and design of the cake to ensure there would be no mistake. For some reason, the store uses a different system for naming the models than the website, which strikes me as unorganized and susceptible to errors. I ordered this cake 3 days in advance, yet when I arrived at the store to pick the cake up, the lady working was only then writing "happy birthday" on the board in front of me. I found it to be extremely unprofessional that it was not done ahead of time and with more attention to detail. The cake itself shocked me even more. It looked nothing like the cake I ordered. When I spoke to the lady working about the issue, all she said was that this was the same type of cake and that there was nothing she could do about it. She did not apologize and only seemed to be annoyed. I explained that the website portrayed a very different looking cake than the one I had in front of me. She said it wasn't her responsibility to maintain the website. I was taken aback by how unprofessional she was and that she had no respect for the time or money it cost me to order this cake. For a cake I paid $40 for, this was extremely disappointing in quality and in service. I had to drive 1.5 hours to pick up this cake, only for my daughter to be upset on her birthday to see a cake she did not choose. As for the taste, it wasn't anything special, and honestly, I could have made a better cake myself at home. I thought this would be a special treat for my daughter's birthday but it was only a stressful and disheartening experience. Please beware of the website's misleading catalog and of the poor, neglectful customer service. If the lady working was understanding and tried to amend the mistake, I would not be giving this review 1 star. However, her attitude and disrespect furthered my disappointment. I attached the pictures of what I was led to believe was the cake I ordered versus what I received. I don't think the workers understand the importance of respecting their customers, especially with this store being on the pricier end, and the disorganization will only lead to continued issues for future customers. I recommend finding another store which will consider the value of your trust, time, and money because you won't...
Read moreReview: Extremely Disappointed by Manager's Behavior (Long-Time Customer)
I have been a loyal customer of this bakery for many years, consistently buying your pastries and cakes. Today, however, I had an experience that has soured my opinion and left me incredibly disappointed.
My order was a mango cake, and I was in line right after another customer who ordered the exact same item. I observed that the customer ahead of me was given a fresh cake from the back freezer (which is expected for quality), but when it was my turn, the older woman, who I assume is the manager, immediately handed me the display cake from the front refrigerator.
When I politely asked for a fresh cake from their back supply, just like the previous customer received, the manager refused to address me directly. Instead, she began **scolding the young girl in Korean language to give me the front-shelf cake. She couldn't even make eye contact with me as she insisted on handing me the inferior, displayed product. I felt that I was being intentionally given a less-than-fresh cake because of my non-Korean background.
I initially took the cake, but the quality of the display cake was clearly poor—the mango fruit already had black spots. I returned two minutes later for a refund, but the manager had left. Thankfully, one of the younger girls behind the counter immediately understood the issue. After I pointed out the spoiled fruit and stated I did not want the display cake, she quickly and kindly retrieved a fresh cake from the back for me.
I shared with the young staff member that I recognized the manager's actions were wrong and felt like I was being treated unfairly, perhaps because the manager thought I "would just take the bad batch and won't say anything about it." I truly feel bad for the two girls who were working. They seemed visibly embarrassed, ashamed by their manager's behavior, and I believe they provided excellent customer service to rectify the situation.
This manager's discriminatory and dishonest treatment of a long-time customer is unacceptable. It’s a shame that such a beautiful bakery with good products is being let down by the unprofessional and poor ethics of its management. I hope the owners address this behavior immediately, as it is damaging the reputation that the excellent younger staff are working hard to maintain.
I want to thank the girls for saving at least a small bit of my experience. I am not sure if i still give them...
Read moreThis is just another chain run by people from over seas looking to push product over service. Recently, I was in and ordered to Babo and a pastry to go. I paid, and waited for my order. And waited some more while the cashier kept ringing up order that came after me with no one working on my order. Finally, I stepped back up to the cashier and asked when she was going to start my order. She then waived me off!! I said, no, I'm not going to wait around while you continue to take new orders. I want my order. She then went to the blender and put her same, unwashed hands into the blender and turned on the water. Just plain water from the tap, no soap, and no hand washing after she had collected my payment and all who came before me and after. (You or I wouldn't handle something as germy as cash and then prepare food for ourselves or our family. I'm sure she has the same standards for her family, but she was only into Sales, not service.) She put her dirty hand into the blender and began to swish around her dirty hand with the food that was still on the blender from the previous order. When she brought my 2 drinks, one had hardly any tapioca pearls in it and I pointed it out. She was all attitude and I had to ask for the manager. The manager graciously refunded my money. Negative "star" rating for the money grubbing attitude, but a star has to be indicated...
