Umart Foods & Bake Shop is a solid choice for homestyle Filipino food in Hoffman Estates. We ordered bopis, papaitan, beef kaldereta, lechon kawali, and pork and chicken BBQ; all of which were delicious and perfectly cooked. The only dish that fell a little short was the pancit bihon, which could have used more meat and vegetables, though the flavor was still good.
For dessert, the maja blanca was just okay, it could have been richer and more flavorful. On the other hand, the breads and snacks were excellent. The uraro cookies were legit and delicious, the ube piaya was so good I wished I had bought more, and the pandesal was soft, fluffy, and fresh.
Service was mostly pleasant, the man who checked us out and the older lady who took our orders were both nice and friendly. The woman cashier, however, came across as more businesslike and not as warm.
