SUMMARY: When visiting Dexter, you must ALWAYS go to A&W. I love the drive-in carside service. I believe the food is less of an everyday restaurant and more of a treat, but Dexter residents would definitely argue otherwise. I have a favorite on the menu that I get every time.
ROOT BEER: If you don't get a huge, heavy mug of root beer you should be slapped silly. It's made on site. Don't try to steal the mug either. The slaps will NOT be silly. 😂 I always get a black cow (a blended float) because it is easier to drink in the car.
ATMOSPHERE: I have been going here for 30 years... since I could drive. I love the drive-in experience. Carside service is part of the charm and a big reason to come here. My dog loves people watching and enjoying the aromas.
SERVICE: When it's busy it's BUSY. Sometimes there's no parking spots. There's a place to park if you're towing a boat. The service is quick no matter what time it is. All service is carside - there's no walk up or take out counter/window.
FOOD: Again, if you don't get a root beer - made on site - you are crazy. The retro menu is pretty much exceptionally greasy fast food. I've been told most people get coney dogs. It hasn't changed during my lifetime. If you want something 'healthy' you won't find it here. The kids menu is perfect. I only give the food ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because I can't disrupt history.
I've been to non-drive-in A&W restaurants and they have all been horrible. Don't bother. If you're not familiar with Dexter, use a map. You can't really see it from the main road unless you're looking for it. It's next to the little 1 lane railroad bridge.
I'm not getting compensation for writing this. (Although I'd never turn down some free black cows! 😁) I was eating my leftovers and there's nothing on TV so just had to...
Read moreFun nostalgic place to come. Good location, fun. Food is yummy, greasy fast food, at first, then always makes us sick after eating. We literally have to go straight home after eating here EVERY TIME. They microwave their food...it's VERY greasy. My son loves it and I've been coming since I was a kid...or else I would never come here probably. I'm in my 30s now. Some waitress are very friendly but have become lazy for being tipped for their "work". They stand around inside Chut chatting with each other until you have to turn on your lights. We have been left sitting there with lights on, ignored (during slow periods, not busy) a few times in the past until I moved vehicle to another spot, or just had to flag another waitress down. Had to wait a bit for service a few times, ask for items that are forgotten. They honestly are lazy, sorry to be brutally honest, but the waitresses are nice at least. Never know who my actual waitress is cause all they do is take your order, someone else will bring it out and then they all ignore you until you flag them down to tip them and leave...I'm a hairstylist, I work my bottom off for as much as they get to take a quick order...so I know about tipping. They are SO CHEAP WITH THEIR KETCHUP!!! I have to ask NUMEROUS times for EXTRA, EXTRA ketchup for a burger and fries and I usually get about 4 packets for a family of 3 lol. It's always been this way and honestly so ANNOYING, especially since It's cheap ketchup and everything they serve NEEDS ketchup lol!!! GIVE THE PEOPLE...
Read moreI'm a school bus driver for Saline Area Schools. We went to A&W, in Dexter, on a school field trip. By the looks of the place, you'd think parking would be rather limited. On the contrary! We managed to park 2 school buses, which took up quite a few parking spots. We'd normally have parked in the lot across the street. However, being a field trip for our special needs students, we needed to park closely to the outdoor patio, for wheelchair access. There were still plenty of parking spots available for others. The staff was certainly on their game! We had probably close to 35-40 staff and students needing to order food and beverages. All the orders were taken in a quick and orderly fashion. The food was served promptly and with smiles. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere! And, a bonus for me was that I got to enjoy an A&W rootbeer float! Haven't had one in about 25 yrs. Did NOT disappoint!! It was as deeelicious as I remember them always being! Thank you staff!! You guys...
