Unfortunately, I have to revise my opinion of this place downwards - which is a shame.
Now that COVID restrictions have lifted, a few friends who love the cuisine of India, decided to revisit this place. It's been one of our favorites for years. I called for a reservation and was told that they do not take reservations on the weekend as these are their busiest days. I get that, so did not take offense, but notified the group of this fact, and we all agreed that the first one in, would get a table and text the rest of us. The first person was me, and when I entered the place it was mostly empty! There were only two occupied tables. Throughout the whole evening, no more than three tables - aside from us - was ever taken. So, why could we not make a reservation???
Some of us wanted beers while deciding on what to order; others wine. The menu has a listing for liquor, and there are orange liquor license signs on the front door and behind the main counter. We have had alcoholic beverages here before, so the orange signs were confusing. The waiter came over - not wearing a mask, by the way! - and we asked to order some drinks. Turns out they only served Corona or Taj Mahal beers, and only by the glass. Apparently, this is because the ownership recently changes and the liquor license is still caught up in the red tape.
None of us knew what Taj Mahal is, so we asked. The explanation is that it was a very good and dark beer that is similar to a. Guinness. Interesting. So, a couple of us ordered it. When the beers arrived, even the waiter could not tell the difference between the Corona and the Taj Mahal .... and he POURED THEM FROM THE BOTTLES!!! They were both light in color. The Taj Mahal, by flavor, was pretty light. More like an IC Light than anything else. Hmm....
Next we ordered our food. One of the dishes was unavailable. No biggie, we ordered a replacement. When the appetizers arrived, the samosas were delivered without the customary chutneys. These were pretty ordinary. The Samosas came at the same time as the Ginger Fish and the sauce on the fish was very tasty, so we used that sauce as a flavoring on the samosas - which worked well.
We also ordered the Spring Dosa - and it was delicious. The crepe was crispy and the sauces were good. The filling was sliced and chopped veggies and the whole ensemble worked well, except that one of us almost choked on an Asparagus spear bottom that was not chopped and was very woody and unchewable.
The main dishes we ordered included a Vegetable Biryani which was unpleasantly sour; A very runny Saag Paneer; A flavorless Chicken Rogen Josh; and a reasonably good Aloo Gobi Masala. To marry it all together, we also ordered a bread basket which had three different versions of Naan, which were great.
The dishes came out in a haphazard order. Two appetizers, than a main dish, then another appetizer. The break basket came out last. Why that?
As you can tell, the restaurant staff is very disorganized. When we discussed the experience afterwards, we all agreed that the quality of the food had deteriorated remarkably from what we remembered. None of us are sure if this is because of the change in ownership and/or staff, or what might be the cause, but we are not likely to return here...

🌟 5 Stars Went here for a birthday dinner and it couldn’t have been a better choice! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance felt warm and inviting. The staff was incredibly attentive and even made sure to wish me a happy birthday, which was a lovely touch.
The food was absolutely delicious — bursting with authentic South Indian flavors. We tried the masala dosa, chicken chettinad, and ghee roast, and each dish was spot on. The filter coffee at the end was the perfect finish.
What made it extra special was the care and service — they made the evening feel personal and celebratory. Highly recommend this spot whether you’re celebrating something or just craving amazing South Indian food. Will definitely be back! 🎉🍛

09/19/2024 I recently dined at Tamarind Greentree, located in Greentree, PA, and was thoroughly impressed by the entire experience. The restaurant offers a cozy and traditional ambiance, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for a relaxed meal.
I started with the Tandoori Chicken Wings, which were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The wings had just the right amount of spice, making them a delightful start to the meal. For the main course, I had the Goat Biryani. The biryani was aromatic and richly flavored, with tender pieces of goat that made every bite enjoyable. The balance of spices was spot on, and the dish truly showcased the depth of Indian cuisine.
The service at Tamarind Greentree was exceptional. The staff were not only friendly and welcoming but also highly knowledgeable about the menu. They made excellent recommendations and ensured that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable from start to finish.
As for the pricing, I found it to be very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and service. It’s always a plus when you feel like you’ve gotten great value for your money.
Overall, Tamarind Greentree offers a wonderful dining experience with its cozy environment, delicious food, and exceptional service. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine in a comfortable and...
Read moreserving forbidden food and not even taking responsibility for it is not acceptable . better not serve at all . Today we went for dinner the waitress told food will take 45 mins as they were low on staff we said ok . she never said anything about limited dishes been served . what ever we order she said it is not available so we ended up ordering the two options she gave .being strict vegetarians we have very less options thanks to her reluctance we had only one choice paneer . we placed order and food was served when I cut my paneer to my surprise it was nothing like paneer it was chicken . we asked the waiter about it he took the dish back what got me was . the person who messed up the order she never cared to came to our table and take responsibility of her mistake . being the person who is comming from same cultural background she knows how bad she messed up by serving chicken to a pandit( pandit : a person who perform religious rights in india and forbiden to eat any non vegetarian food from birth) . when we called her and asked about how the chicken ended up in our food she was very reckless and careless and said you can have chicken its ok even after we mentioned we are pandit never had meat in my entire life she doest seem to care . this is unacceptable . if you are not able to serve then deny in the first place . take responsibility for your mistake . if you cannot handle catering and resturant dont serve but dont serve forbidden foods to your paying customers . I would really think before considering tamarind again after todays embarassment . This is not...
