Certain dates are crucial in our lives, my 40th birthday was around the corner an wanted somewhere that always is a step above the rest and astonishes each visit. Truly wanted a spot to have the best drinks, steak, sides, and service you can have. While rolling up and down busy Scottsdale road, this steak house caught the corner of our eye back for our 1st wedding anniversary. That visit has kept us coming back to Fleming’s due to the experience that was created by their manager Coleen! We arrived and had some time to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere at the bar side. Let me tell you they keep a great selection of whiskey’s on the shelf, the wife enjoyed a Angel’s Envy Bourbon to kick off, and I started with a Old Fashion, (side note)- they have the best in house recipe for these, and I upgraded with a 2018 bookers batch that was in the higher 120 proof range. . I think I told you they have a grand selection, right? We then headed over to our seats, any spot in the place has been comfy for your reference, it has relaxing lighting, romantic décor, and stellar table side service. Let’s get back to our seats, we were surprised to see 2 amazing custom drinks ready to go at our table, (image in this post), I must say just being a walk-in customer is one thing, but when you grow relationships, and build your network, it turns into an extremely excellent experience! We are always treated like king and queen by Coleen and the amazing staff at this Scottsdale location, we both started with the Crab Cakes, this starter has roasted red pepper and a lime butter sauce that leaves you with an empty plate wanting more, we then ordered our Signature steaks, the wife had an amazing Petite Filet Mignon, 8 oz with a You better not pass up Jumbo Lump Crab Meat, with a Oscar style béarnaise sauce.. that will not allow you to stop for a drink... that anyone will perform a fingertip kiss to the kitchen staff! I had the Prime New York Strip, 16oz of OMG goodness, with the Over the top.. Diablo Shrimp. (not spicy. Just right!). We shared our sides of the Baked Potato and the Chipotle cheddar mac & Cheese…. Did I mention. we were not looking to count calories on this special day. As well most seats get a great view of the kitchen staff cooking the meal from a distance. We did finish out our evening with a few more drinks, and a dessert, which ill let you pick on your visit, don’t want to spoil all the surprises. Recommendation if you are looking to kick back the evening with dinner and drinks, I would pre-book a room at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort & Villas as we did. This steak house is attached to this resort, and the rooms are relaxing, and close. If you took the time to read this, be sure to ask for Coleen. Mention this review, you won’t regret your visit. We are sure you’ll just want to come back each...
Read moreI take my girlfriend to Flemings every year for Valentine’s Day. Usually we go to the one further north at DC Ranch, but I just bought a house in Paradise Valley so we chose to try this one. I had reservations at 4:15 PM on February 14, 2022. The hostess staff for amazing and sweet, our waiter seemed like she wanted us out as soon as possible, they sat us in a silent room by ourself with a weird vibe, and immediately after sitting for 3 minutes came and took our order and while we said we weee looking she just stood there and waiting. I’ve had Sarah a bunch of times, for my brother’s graduation party, for a few anniversary dinners, usually she’s great. Last night, if it was anyone else, she would’ve gotten a huge complaint and
Read moreI typically don’t write reviews, but I’ve never felt so disrespected in my life as I did when I visited this restaurant on 9/24/21 at 6 PM. The entire experience felt like something out of a 1950s movie—unreal and unsettling. Honestly, I’ve taken a long time to even process what happened.
I made a reservation for myself and my significant other after a friend recommended the place. I was excited and expected a great evening. But as soon as we arrived, I had this strange, uneasy feeling. I brushed it off as nerves, but now I realize it was my intuition—and maybe even my ancestors—trying to tell me something.
When we walked in, a manager immediately rushed over to the host and whispered something in her ear. It felt odd, but I didn’t want to assume anything. The host looked nervous and then asked, “Would you like the VIP table?” We had never been to this restaurant before and saw plenty of open tables, but I thought maybe she meant a nice booth or a more private spot, so I agreed.
As she led us through the restaurant, we passed several empty tables—yet she continued to lead us all the way to the back, into a completely empty room. No one else was seated there. Just me and my Black boyfriend. The message was loud and clear. As we walked through the restaurant, I could feel every eye on us. We were the only Black couple there, and we were being separated from everyone else.
When we got to the table, I looked at my partner, then at the server. She could tell I was about to say something, and quickly jumped in with, “It’s going to get busy in here soon.” I calmly told her we were leaving. She didn’t ask any questions—just said, “Okay, no problem.” As we walked out, someone rushed over and offered to seat us somewhere closer to the front. But by then, the damage was done. If that were truly an option, it should have been done from the beginning—especially since I made a reservation.
To anyone reading this who may not understand: this wasn’t just about a table. It was a heartbreaking, dehumanizing experience that revealed the reality of how some places still treat African-Americans. I wasn’t going to sit there and spend my hard-earned money somewhere that made me feel unwelcome and less than.
We ended up going to another restaurant that actually deserved our business. As for this one—I’ll never go back, and I’ll continue sharing this story so others...
