I don't generally find complete failure in a restaurant - so I will start with the positive - the water was good - seems filtered. Moving on, here we go. We showed up at about Noon, expecting there to be a wait. There was - twenty minutes. The interesting part was that the wait was not for a lack of staff or open tables. In fact, the entire time we were waiting, there were tables open. I suspect it was to keep the flow of orders to the kitchen in a steady pace vs. overload the kitchen - but it is off-putting to be told to wait when you can see 5 open tables from the main entrance. It is even more off-putting to have that 20-minute wait and then after ordering, wait 45+ minutes to get the food.
So, we get to the table with the brunch menu - which for a vegetarian friendly restaurant, had zero vegetarian items on it other than a stack of pancakes. We ordered immediately because we knew what we wanted from waiting so long. Coffee was okay, nothing special, and after it was delivered was never refilled or asked about again for nearly 1 hour. Daughter's milk never showed up - so I asked for it and got it - and again no refill on the coffee though they did manage to refill the water glass right next to it that had one sip missing.
Next the food. I ordered the vegetable quiche. Now, quiche should be silky smooth. This was very 'egg-y' and runny to the point that I couldn't stomach it. Beyond that it was very underwhelming in flavor and vegetable content. The crust however was oddly overcooked - a feat that had me scratching my head.
My wife had the blackened Mahi-Mahi tacos. I have never had a Mahi-Mahi taco that managed to be flavorless and dry as a bone. I am not sure how they managed to kill the natural sweet fish flavor that it naturally carries. It is truly a mystery. It did come with a few strands of cabbage and pickle - but not enough to add flavor beyond the abusive blackening that the poor seafood endured. The black beans could not decide if they wanted to be refried or whole and ended up a muddled mass that took a swim in the Great Salt Lake before being served.
My daughter ordered the Mac and Cheese and French Fries. She could not eat the Mac and Cheese (it appears to be a semi-custom variation that has a little bit of sharpness to it that most kids would not enjoy. Now here, I will admit that both the wife and I did consume the Mac and Cheese - as it was decent for an adult pallet. The French Fries were just regular frozen fries - typical of most places - though salt was an afterthought.
I will give most places the 'try it twice treatment' but the disappointment here was so bad that I can assure you they have to practice and work extra hard to get such horrendous quality. To deliver such a spectacular failure accidentally is just...
Read moreIt is apparent that the Vig in McCormick Ranch caters to large groups who want to consume lots of alcohol and eat dinner secondary. We came in on a Monday night at 7:30 and were seated near the large sliding doors to the outside seating. By 8:00 we still had not been served, so I asked our server if she could check on our orders. She did and came back to tell us that they were just 'slammed' and that our dinners would be out in about 10 minutes. In the meantime, the large sliding doors remained fully open and it was drafty and cold. At 8:20 pm I decided to take a walk around the seating and see if there might be an empty table that was a bit warmer, I found one and I asked another server if we could move since by now we were cold and had been waiting for our food for 55 minutes. Our original server than offered us a free dessert before we received our food. The other server seated us at the new table and went to check on the dinner. One hour later, the manager came over to our new table and explained that they were slammed and offered us chips and salsa. We accepted and by 8:45 we were served our food. There was no apology for the long wait only them explaining how they had to serve the other large groups, evidently being preferred before us. After eating the bill was brought to our table, but the free dessert was not mentioned. I guess they figured they'd appeased us already with chips and salsa. They did adjust our bill for the food. We will not be returning to the Vig at McCormick Ranch in the future. When we left there were two guys out front from the groups that were wobbling from side to side because of too much...
Read moreI have been going to this Restaurant with my meetup group since April and for the most part, everything had been fine. Last night we were meeting in the game room and we arrived early because we had a special guest who flew in from NY to meet with us. Within the first 15 minutes of being there the manager pulled me aside and asked me to tell my guest to stop walking around the restaurant talking on his phone because she was getting complaints from the guests. There was practically no one in the restaurant to complain. So, obviously, she was the one who was bothered and not anyone else. Then we start our meetup and there is another family that comes into the gameroom and there's no trouble. No one is bothered. I see the manager and host walk in and look at us and they are talking. We are interviewing the special guest. Not being very loud at all, and just eating, talking, not being a disturbance. After we finish the manager comes to me again and says that she needs to talk with me and says that we can't take over the gameroom when we reserve a table. I brought 20 people to their venue. Basically every time when I do an event at this venue I bring 15 to 20 people in and they all buy food and drinks and we spend at least $300 and tip well. I told the manager it's ok we're not coming back and she said oh! ok. sorry it didn't work out. Seriously rude. I guess that she doesn't want people to come to the Vig on a Monday night and spend money. Absolutely nuts. Oh well, guess we'll be taking our money to a more deserving bar/restaurant. Sorry it...
