A Cozy Fusion of Pop Culture & Local Hangout

Poor Richard’s Pub sits snugly inside Idle Hours South (formerly South Side Bowl) at 125 Beech St., Scranton, PA . It offers a unique blend of bar, bowling, gaming, and nostalgia—all under one roof.

Fans of The Office will delight in its fond pop-culture references and familiar atmosphere . A friendly Yelp review puts it aptly:

“Absolute gem of a venue, especially if you love the office! It’s in a bowling alley and is so unassuming, but you walk in and immediately feel like you’re in a neighborhood joint.”

⸻

What Makes Poor Richard’s Pub Shine

Entertainment & Atmosphere • All‑in‑one Experience: Whether it’s bowling, darts, arcade games, or karaoke nights, there’s always something to do . • Sporting Action: With around 11 HD TVs, it’s a prime spot to catch Monday Night Football or other big games . • Laid-back Charm: The eclectic decor and friendly, neighborhood vibe make it feel effortlessly comfortable .

Food & Drink • Rotating Craft Beer & Cold Brews: The bar boasts a seasonal and craft beer lineup that rotates regularly . • Wing Nights That Pack a Punch: Every Tuesday and Thursday, wings go for just 40¢ each, available in flavors like mild, hot, super hot, BBQ, honey mustard, teriyaki, garlic, and sweet & sour . • One reviewer noted the wings are hearty, though the garlic wings relying on garlic powder were divisive . • Solid Bar Fare: A Yelp goer raved about a burger saying, “I was pleasantly surprised and this was a quality burger for a bowling alley. It was cooked well, the toppings were …” . Another praised the Friar Tuck Original hoagie—“It was actually pretty good. Bartender was very friendly. Very cold beer. Food was great. I’d come back.”

Service • Mixed Reviews: Some describe the staff as friendly and attentive . Others experienced less stellar service, citing slow check-out and inattentiveness .

⸻

Final Verdict: Why Poor Richard’s Pub Wins

Poor Richard’s Pub nails a rare trifecta: pop culture coolness, neighborhood warmth, and multi-faceted entertainment. It’s the kind of place where you can bowl, belt out karaoke, crush wing specials, cheer on your favorite teams, and soak in an Office-lover’s paradise—all under one neon-lit roof.

Whether you’re a Scranton local or just passing through, swing by for a cold brew, wing night, or a friendly game—and stick around for the vibe that makes this spot truly...

Never in my life have I left a bar in tears. The way we were treated was absolutely appalling, and if this is how their service is on a regular basis, it’s a shame. When we walked in, there was no one else there. We were not acknowledged at all, so we sat ourselves at a table. No one brought us menu’s or said a word to us. After we asked for menus, we waited at the table at least 10 minutes before having to get up to go to the bar and place our order. The waiter did not ask if we wanted drinks or anything, so my boyfriend walked back over to the bar to order drinks and the waitress looked right at him and walked away, without a word. When part of our order was ready (the order was messed up, also), the waiter walked out and mumbled that the rest would be out and set my plate on the bar. I had to get up and walk over to the bar MULTIPLE times to get our food. After a few bites, we just asked for boxes and took our food home. While we were there, other people came in and the waiter and waitress were friendly with them. The only difference was the color of skin, and that’s extremely upsetting to see. I would absolutely not recommend this bar, nor will I ever...

Not sure how the food or drinks are as we were never acknowledged or waited on. Came to Scranton specifically to sight see places from The Office. I was so excited to go to Poor Richards. We already knew what we wanted to eat as we looked online at the menu during our travels. They were not busy. There were maybe 10 people at the bar and two tables for the waitress. We came in and no one came up to us or said anything or even looked at us. We asked the bartender if we sat ourselves and he just We sat down and then another group sat down at the table next to us. The waitress immediately went up to them and got their orders and knew them by name and walked right past us multiple times. We sat at the tables for 20 minutes before we decided we should leave as the waitress went up to the table next to us 3 times and we tried to get her attention but she completely ignored us. Super disappointing that this will be my memory of the place and the story I tell when I tell my friends and family about my trip. Now that I am reading the reviews I see this is a...

Grabbed a bite after the bowling tournament last week while the DJ was mid-spin and the ladies were in party mode. We were grabbing drinks all night, bartenders and server that was running for the lanes were both friendly and helpful. The food took longer than I would have hoped. There was only one cook on, but one other table ordered before us and then us, and we only got a burger and their "house special" sandwich. Aside from having to wait, I can say that I was pleasantly surprised and this was a quality burger for a bowling alley. It was cooked well, the toppings were fresh, there was a toasted brioche bun, and the fries were crispy but not overcooked. The burger itself was a typical frozen patty but I didn't expect anything more so it worked out just fine. When hungry at the lanes, I'd absolutely grab food here again.
