What a huge disappointment this place was. There is really no love in this food. The chicken fried steak was actually pretty good except for the fact that it and the gravy screamed out for some salt. That and clearly it seems to to be pre-made frozen ready to deep fry. Actually, it was a pretty good chicken fried steak but very very bland. Where's the salt????? The mashed potatoes were decent but again, they too screamed out for some salt. The broccoli cheese was a complete disaster since it tasted like it just came out of the refrigerator. It was stone cold. The waitress could have at least offered me something else that might have some level of heat in it or the option to warm it up. Then just when I thought I was past the worst of it, the check came. I ordered right off of the table sign that advertised Monday specials listed just below the hours which said serving until 9:00pm. Right below that they listed a catfish plate, chicken fried steak, and I think something else. I stopped right at the chicken fried steak and ordered. When I get the check it turns out it is not a Monday special at all. After inquiring about the higher price, the waitress points out at the very bottom of the sign that the special ends at 2:00pm. Well folks, that's not a Monday special. That's a lunch special at best. They either need to remove these signs after lunch or call it what it is, a lunch special. It felt like a complete bait and switch. Don't lead with the hours at the top implying that it's being served until 9 at that price. I'll bet a $100 they never fix the sign and continue to mislead people like this. Again, I never sensed any real love in their food. I'll never...
Read moreWhat the heck happened to Tony's? The fried chicken used to be some of the best in the state and we were craving it so we stopped by here on our way home, eager to try the chicken again. There was a Sunday lunch special where we could select a meat and two vegetables. Normally, we had to wait 30 minutes or so for the chicken to be fried. Not today, it came in less than 5 minutes. When the waitress put the food on our table, we could tell that it wasn't fresh or crispy and obviously had been sitting for a while. We later discovered that they were serving from a steam table, which was the reason for the poor quality. Gone was the fresh, crispy chicken of the past years. And to make matters worse, the breasts appeared to be cut in half or else it was the smallest chicken that I have even seen!
Was it an off day because it was a Sunday? Should we have gone on off-peak times and hope that the food would be better and fresher? I just can't say how disappointed that we were with our meal today. I am very hesitant to go back to Tony's and it was always good.
I think that it's time for a general cleaning at the restaurant and update the cleaning of tables policy. I watched a worker clean a table across from us. It was obvious that she wasn't using a clean rag, any disinfectant and didn't clean all of the condiments that were on the table. Just basically smeared her wet rag on the table. The floors, windows and carpet were...
Read moreI've eaten here many times, and I can say that I've never had a bad experience. The food is great, whether you are ordering off the menu or having the daily buffet options. My husband and I have had it all. Breakfast is exactly what you would expect from a good 'ole Southern kitchen - grits, pancakes, enormous biscuits, omelets, etc. All fabulous! The daily buffet has a variety, but you can't go wrong with their fried catfish or chicken fried steak. My favorite part is the veggies - LOVE THEM! I love their cabbage, carrots, black eyed peas... I could go on, and on, and on. Their menu is pretty standard, from salads to hamburgers, sandwiches, steak fingers... All good. The staff has always been on point. Wait staff are incredibly efficient, very hospitable and kind. They move fast!! And the best part of all, besides the veggies, is their prices. You won't kill your bank account eating here, and most likely, you'll have food to go home with as well. Just a side note: Sunday mornings before church but especially after church - PACKED, but it's worth it. One of my favorite places when I want to...
