Why did it take me so long to walk into this wonderful place? Leaving this review so y'all don't make the same mistake I made.
I sat at a high top and the bartender greeted me as soon as I walked in. She was warm and friendly and brought over a menu but turns out she recognized me from another community overlap. It was super cool.
When I asked about the glasses she told us about the Ballard drinking team. You drink 100 beers so about two a week within a year and you get a glass of your own that's etched. And then it gets a slot. And there's over 700 members. Now I have the ambition to become one.
What I love is that there was a beer tasting for everyone at the bar while we were there. Seems like a regular thing. The masses were getting educated on a particular saison, that they let us try as well.
My choice was a red IPA that I had never tried from Ninkasi Brewing. I loved it. Would easily order that again.
Also had the soup of the day which was Polish Kielbasa sausage and lentils with fresh cilantro. I added the melted tuna on sourdough for good measure. My friend arrived and ordered the pretzel with cheese sauce and it was delicious.
There were people with their dogs enjoying a year there were others working on their laptops which gave me the idea that I could come with mine and do some work here… It was a nice mix of genuine friendliness and space. Quintessential Pacific Northwest vibe.
Can't wait to come back and try some of the desserts. Don't make the mistake that I did...and wait. It's right next to the Nordic Museum and across the street from the iconic...
Read moreBallard Kiss Cafe is a cute cafe near the Locks with fare that focus on sandwiches and a variety of beer. While kind, our waitress lacked beer knowledge, prompting an arrival at the bar. When I asked the bartender what beers they had, he responded, "The ones in the fridge," which elicited an eye-roll. However, things quickly turned around after I specified that I was looking for a stout, which the bartender promptly supplied. The sandwiches were absolutely delicious. My partner and I had the Chipotle Roast Beef and the Half Sandwich Combo with jambalaya, both excellent offerings. The roast beef is tender and juicy, while the chipotle sauce provides a nice kick. Unfortunately, the tomato basil soup is far too innovative to be called tomato basil soup. Their use of coconut milk made it taste like a curry that needed to be more delectable offering. Other than that, the crack pretzel was an ABSOLUTE standout. I'd come just for a pretzel and a beer. Overall, this cute sidewalk restaurant is dog-friendly, with delicious sandwiches but so-so service. I look forward...
Read moreHas a sign "believe trans kids" on the window. What an absurd proclamation.
Believe them… about what? Children can sincerely believe all kinds of things that aren’t true—about Santa Claus, monsters in the closet, or wanting to be a dinosaur. The job of adults isn’t to rubber-stamp every feeling a child has, but to help them sort through reality with care and guidance.
Children are vulnerable precisely because they lack the maturity to make permanent, life-altering decisions. Saying ‘believe trans kids’ oversimplifies a very complex issue and encourages adults to affirm without question, when what children actually need is protection, patience, and critical guidance.
Believing someone’s feelings is not the same thing as believing their interpretation of reality. A boy who says he’s a girl is expressing distress, but he’s still male. Adults should take the distress seriously without endorsing a falsehood.
Believe trans kids—okay, but also believe the detransitioners who say they were harmed by being affirmed too quickly. Which kids do we...
